ABS pump has stopped working, check the fuses clipped onto the side of the relays under the glovebox...

Also, check the connector onto the pump which is the cylindrical unit mounted under the master cylinder...

try the pump on the brake master cylinder it has failed on mk3cosworths old escort 3 times it is sat close to the exhaust & turbo
it is the motor under the accumulator next to the fluid res it should buzz when the peddle is pressed if it isnt working the peddle is solid
is is also easy to change with the turbo heat shield removed

Take the power connector off the pump and check across the terminals with a meter for 12V

I had the same thing happen when I was driving once I was driving through a housing estate down a hill after picking my mate up, fortunately it was early Sunday morning and no one was around. I went to brake and the pedal just locked and I had nothing! Had to use the handbrake to stop...

Turned out to be a green (or maybe it was purple) relay under the glovebox had gone duff!

Imagine if that had happened 5 mins later when I would have been doing 70+ on the motorway!
