Default F.A.O Plasterers or people in the know

Just a quickie, how much can I expect to pay to get a plasterer to skin over an artex ceiling? Ceiling is 10ftx8ft

I know I could call around but internet is easier at work and for all they know I am typing an email!

Any help much appreciated

Thanks

Yeah I have heard a couple of things, the father in law is a decorator (not plasterer sadly) and he was under the impressions that artex wasn't too much of an arse to plaster over, but a right ballbag to remove, plus we would be left with bumby ceilings after that

One of my colleagues is a plasterer by trade, and he refuses to plaster over artex due to it being a cunt of a job - his own words

if you scrape it off wear dust masks ! . just overboard it and skim less mess. find the joists first though or you'll more than likely hit a pipe

As above i was told its only worth overboarding if your not gonna scrape it off underneath first!!! otherwise scrape it off and seal it off then get it skimmed again!! Obviously if its not flat after then it could be a prob.....

I was quoted £400 too do our lounge (bout 23ftX ermmm about i dunno ) and that was too overboard it, skim it and do the coveing which is pretty good but cant afford it at mo, just spend about 1k geting the electrics and boiler sorted So gonna scrape off whats there and go from there!! been told using a steamer helps but only for a few seconds at a time or it'll blow the board underneath

He could have just skimmed it as it was but said there was no way of gaurenteeing coverage due to how thick the pattern is!!!

Nice thing is the whole house is the same

no more than 100 quid of its not big stipple artex....may take 3 coats see Takes longer to go off as its sealed with emulsion, then theres the unibond...so normally it wouldnt take so long but it saps time due to this..

So overall, am I better stripping it and reboarding it (not something I can do in terms of re-boarding) or just getting it plastered over?

which is better in terms of time and cost?
