Default RS Turbos OR Cossies

What do you guys prefer?

Because to be honest owning cossies lately has just been a headache and a big hole in the wallet, which TBH is starting to piss me off. I hardly get any use out of any of the cossies I own and are forever fixing them

Only owned a few RS turbos which never let me down, but were for obvious reasons not as fun....but at least they were on the road and if they needed fixing didnt require a re-mortgage.

if you fix it properly the first time you wouldnt need to keep doing it must be just your bad luck as since ive ironed out the teething problems with mine ive had no more trouble...and mines is in a bmw

Must admit i bought my 1st Cossie way back in 1995 & didn't maintain it properly did 2 headgaskets in 12 months & sold it,bought another in 1996 which was a knackered 130k 4x4 saph & nothing but trouble. Bought a Q plate 3dr very cheap in in March 2003 & only sold it last week it never ever broke down once & i did a few trackdays in the last 2yrs i had it,drove to the track gave it death all day & drove back home no probs I spent a fair bit on it over the years & had the engine rebuilt in Oct04 & ran 1.5 bar with T34 .48, when i had the enging rebuilt i replaced evey sensor, leads, dizzy, fuel reg etc, the only thing i never replaced was the wiring loom, fuel pump, diff, gearbox & exhaust, it ran like a dream & was mega reliable.

i had an RSturbo last year and tbh id never have another one, it was really unreliable, spent more time fixing the RST than Lee has spent fixing the cossie in 3yrs

I had a few RS turbo's before Cossie's & when my 2nd Cossie had skint me i sold it & bought another RS turbo as it was cheaper to buy & run, only had it 2 weeks & sold it. I could never ever own an RS turbo again it was so bumpy & noisey it drove me mad, much prefer to slide the rear of a Cossie about

they go wrong cause there old and heres a hint for you,,, ford ODO clocks only read to 100k then go back to ZERO

what does that tell you ford expect to happen to them when they get old !!!

ive got a bmw thats got 147k miles on the clock, it breaks down though but i abuse the arse off it ALOT and aint got me more than 100 quid to repair in total YET !!!

ive got one of each (s1 and 3dr), and TBH, they are as bad as each other. The only difference is when a Turbo breaks, its usually half the cost of a Cosworth to fix!

am i the only person who has had three RS's and not considered any of them to be unreliable

in the 5 odd years of owning them, 2 Rs turbos and a saff. i only had 2 major issues, one of my old series 2's used to much gearboxes (is that a reliability thing, was buying S/H boxes), and i had a major pain when i tried some home maintanence on my series 2 which involved it not starting for a few days

other than that they have been pretty good

my saff has never let me down

Love them both!! I've had 4 RS turbos (2 Fiestas and 2 S2 Escorts) in my time and 2 sapphire cosworths.

My RS turbos were tbh very reliable, but I never drove them hard.

Cosworths have been less reliable but I just don't think you can beat that feeling when you're trundling along on a nice summer's night in a cossie. Love it

But like someone said above, when the Cossie goes wrong it's serious money cmpaired to an Escort turbo. Just as well I drive like a fanny

Default cos or rst

Owning a cossie I will have to say is better than owning a rst, there again I've never owed a rst but getting in a mates one just reminded me of getting into my old xr2 tinny and you can hear and feel every bump,

We are down to just 1 RS now and thats a cossie no RST's anymore...

tbh i prefer the little luxuarys of the cossie power steering aircon (on some) ect..

couldnt go back to an rst again.. unless it was to sell on...

Well, one things for sure, once I get rid of the RST, I certainly WONT be buying a Cossie.

They are no more reliable and IMO not that much further ahead in terms of development. Certainly not up to the newer age of performance cars.

If someone has sold an unreliable RST and bought a reliable Cossie, it was luck I reckon. It would be just as likely to sell an unreliable Cossie and buy a reliable RST.

LOL. Left an E46 M3 CSL the other night and I was running a measly 1.6 bar.

Didn't I Mike??!!

OK, so it's a Mk4 Escort, but it's a whole load of fun.

loving the high powered RST dabates, i had much fun in my old S2 and that was only 190bhp

but you just get more respect in a cossie. out in the old bean tean, everyone looked at me like i was a c*nt, apart from fellow ford owners. But the cossie always gets good looks and respecting nods wherever it goes.

even from scooby and EVO owners, prob cos they are trying to guess how much power you have before they decide to race you

One thing I do know is that I often get to drive 400bhp RWD cars and compared to my RST, they just don't do it for me. Forgetting image and everything else, my RST just gets the adrenaline pumping.

Out of all the cars I have driven, there is truly only one that I would replace mine with and that's Gary's Evo. It truly is a missile.

That said, there is a major obstacle there. Money. There is no way on god's green earth that I could afford to do that.

I have said before that for me it is more about how the car makes me feel than how fast it actually goes. OK, so ithe RST is knocking on 170mph top speed, but when can I use that? But when I drive it, it is truly exciting.
