My old rst was fun in a straight line that was about it.Handling was SHOCKING!!!!. Tuned up by the Boys up Jamsport to 225bhp.I drove it everyday to work etc. I spent about 2.5k on it in the year I owned everything kept failing.Gearbox .Then picked up a gearboxman job that was 700 notes.Turbo went 500notes.List went on.then there was the rust.
Biggest pile of wank going Id never own another.

Picked up the rs2000 which ive owned for nearly 2 years and NOTHING has gone wrong with it. 175bhp on last r/r handles very well too.

I did a calculation which is basically BHP at the wheels per tonne. If you do that, assuming Gary's Evo is 500bhp, they both come out to around 320bhp at the wheels per tonne.

What does a Sapphire Cossie weigh just out of interest? 2wd/4wd.....

about 1275kg i think for 2wd...could be wrong though??

road or rollers.....there'd be absolutely no chance of an upset

even with my piss poor launching and lack of traction off the line i get 13.2@115mph 1/4mile times.....don't see many beantins better than that...plus my car is only just wound up then.....pulls hard all the way past 160mph

oh and don't think i'm going for more power now, gonna concentrate on more traction first

I think the cossie owners ought to ask themselves how much a cossie was brand new and how much an rs turbo was brand new.

Hardly rocket science that they were pretty much double the price of an rs turbo

theres no other driving position better than a sierra,weather it be cossie or 2.0l gls the dashboard is great,it just feels right to drive

mk 4 escort feels tinny,low,plasticy,crap gearchange,fwd,no pas,even if it is an rs turbo,they look nice,but thats as far as it goes,the only 1 thing i liked about driving my s2 was the recaros

no offence to the rs turbo boys like thats just my prefrence as ive owned both

im not even going to mention the power


ps ...small things like the stereo pointing towrds you in a sierra so you can see it,i like....unlike other fords

we have just bought my missus an st200 estate.love the way it drives,just aint got the character of the cossie.i prefer old cars.

AFPMSL. An Escort is an Escort? Well, what the fuck is a Sierra then? Some high-class thoroughbred machine then??!!

Take the RST and the Cossie back to their most basic form and how are they really any different?

Maybe the Sierra was originally pitched at someone slightly different as a basic car, but let's be honest, they really aren't that different.

Like the status difference between a Mondeo and a Focus. 2 different car's, one isn't really that much better than the other.

When it comes to how advanced they are, both just have the standard Chassis fundamentally, so neither is really leaps and bounds ahead of the other.

Today, the 1600CVH RST engine is being tuned to more than double its factory horsepower, as is the Cossie. So, both are around the same in those stakes. A few people have taken both Cossie and RST beyond that too. There are some 2.0 Cossie's which are beyond 500bhp and some 1.6 RST's which are beyond 300bhp.

So, does it just boil down to image?

If that's the case, can you seriously tell me that in 2007 you really feel any better driving a 17-18 year old Cossie than I do driving my 17-18 year old RST? If so, I have no idea why. A Cossie is just as much a Chav-wagon as an RST. It's in the eye of the beholder IMO and almost everyone except for those that actually own the Cossie's thinks that, just as they do about RST's.

The difference for me is that my RST doesn't cost alot to maintain. A Cossie however still suffers from the dreaded Cossie-tax. No thank you!!

anything that has tits and access to money is expensive

im suprised your car doesnt cost you much tbh,being that far up in the tuning steaks. my old bailey built 250bhp one used to be reliable mostly but ate boxes and driveshafts all the time but that was built years ago and i spose technology has improved since.

ha ha i wouldnt go that far the saph 4x4 and esco are still rwd mounted and 66 split to rear so basically same with extra help from the front

There both as reliable as each other in my opinion. You get good and bad examples of both, just like any car.

I know any car can go wrong at any time, but generally speaking, a cars reliability depends on how its been maintained and how its been looked after by its previous owners in my opinion.

I think another point worth mentioning is that cossies are a more expensive better spec'd car in the first place (engine wise)

But now the difference in actually buying them isnt that different, so if you can afford to run a cossie it would probably be your first choice????
