My old hack from '94. Hand built by myself. My road bike was totalled while I was out on a ride and my hips took a pounding so I gave up
Still have the bike at my mums place though.
Not much by current standards but a 25lb bike with suspension in '94 was good going.

I have an Old Merlin i built up around 97/98 that i used for racing X country for a couple of seasons, sorry got no pics. Stopped in 99 after an off, and its been used for fun and riding to work ever since.
I didnt see a 3 ft high barbed wire fence on a fast down hill section, luckily it was about leg height which flipped me over the top. One of the lads who was there when i came around said i had been out cold for 5 min, but it was fucking cool to watch as he followed me thinking i had found a quicker line Recall on trip said max 33.2mph which would have been that section so no wonder it sparked me out.
Wouldnt mind getting back into it but Cars, Golf, and missus take up most of my time now.

hopefully im gonna get some mega light synergys on there soon
the original designer is still using the same design rear susp today!!!
marin changed their version and made it worse

Yeah entry level moutain bike is gonna be circa Ł350. That one will be more than good enough for easy.....cross country riding if you like and could maybe withstand some light downhill.
An entry level Scott scale 70(x country ish) will run you Ł499
Entry level scott genius mc50(downhill+enduro) is Ł1499
Entry level scott ransom 40(downhill/moutain trail) is Ł1899

Hi Rab how you doing? I had a Trek 8000 when I was at school, did me well for 10 years! Couple of years ago i got a Cannondale Jekyll 700 with Lefty front forks. Here's a pic;
Took that photo before a ride at Glentress near Peebles - the routes there are the best i've ever ridden. Best thing about my bike is the confidence the disk brakes give me, now i KNOW i can stop i don't ride like such a wimp!
Here's 2 photos I took at the World Cup event at Fort William to 2005;
Cheers, Mark
