did you by any chance unplug the connector for the crank sensor & the knock sensor and by accident got these the wrong way round?

cause i'd just done tis when putting my engine back together and has same issues as you fuel pump running all the time varied spark no injector cycle

swapped connectors back over and up it started oh the connectors are white

I'm running a L8 with Coil-pack and stage 3 setup

Definitely sounds like an odd, intermittent problem, which would make you think wiring or something like an ignition amp. Do I remember someone else saying their (perfectly functioning) car sparked the plugs when the ignition switch was only in position two as well? So that's not out of the ordinary? Can that person tell us if he gets the weak/strong/intermittent sparks that you're getting at switch position two (i.e. not position three, trying to start the engine)?

Have you tried different ignition amps yet?

Bloody nightmare, but it's great to see the effort everyone's putting in for you, good on you all!

Roosie - As I sometimes ask people on fiestaturbo.com to do with bizarre issues like this, do you fancy taking some nice big clear pictures all around the engine bay? Show up potential error points, i.e. wiring, connectors and anything else. Gives people something to look at, and an obvious issue might jump out We're at that stage where anything's worth a shot hey?

You are definitely getting fuel aren't you? And do we know that when cranking the spark plugs are all firing okay now? Sorry, it's a long thread to remember all the details from with MSN convo's interrupting thought paths!

I cant help but think there is an ECU issue here still, but the odds of you having 2 faulty ecu drivers is incredibly slim, as is teh chance we installed both badly.

Youve allready tried another chip, so that rules that out. I am almost out of ideas here mate.

What i may do is assemble another L8 Ecu with a driver and send it to you. I am not sure if we have a spare though, so will check tomorrow.

No, mine looked completly different to yours, I'll get some photos when I next take it out which should be soon as the lisght for the heater controls has packed in along with one of the ones on the clocks.

No mate, theres no way to check them, although Simon is actually sorting me out a simulation bench so i can do just that. We have sent out stacks of tehse things we have fitted and never had one not run. The chances of doing yours wrong twice is extremely remote mate, but of course not exactly impossible.

Cant you have teh car recovered here somehow?

Updated!

had a fairly knowledgable cossie expert have a quick opinion today and he reckons its most likely a ecu fault

just need to find someone in the area with l8 closed loop to test

Excellent, that means i can charge you for an hours labour installing a new driver.

Only joking pal, feel sad for you having all this trouble with her.

Why not try recounting your steps and listing EVERYTHING that happened to your car since the moment you removed the ecu and sent it to me. In fact, everything thats happened since you last had her running...
