Evo owners have every right to be smug, after all they have been TOTB team winners for the last 2 years and Simon Norris the outright winner last year and Clive Seddon was 2nd the year before.

i put this down to them being real car enthusiasts who, have possibly owned a cossie when they came out before they became rich and could afford exotics
and i have to say the saffs still held thier own against some of the more normal "supercars"

Threads like these are on every forum though, although one of the main reasons i use this site is because there doesn't seem to be any superior attitude on here. Those people who post "such and such is shit" feel they have something to prove, and usually get slated for making a stupid statement.

ive been a memebr of the RSOC for about 8 years now, when i had a stg 1 4x4 saph, and drove a std evo 5 it blew my mind and i went out part exed the cossie for a evo 6 and joined the MLR -
yes it is a different kettle of fish altogether, yes, it does make the cossie feel agricutural in comparison, no there were no reliability issues (but again the car was only just 3 years old as oppose to a 9 year old one,
BUT i drove the evo every day as i did the cossie and tbh honest no mater how brilliant the power delivery and handling of the evo i was beggining to get bored of it and it was a bit charecterless - just a precise machine that did everything you wanted of it.
due to getting a 12month ban beacuse of its sublime handling i sold ti and bough a bif turbo escos and had that for 4 years and drove it nearly every day for the last 2 of them - the 1st 2 i spent doing jobs on it and getting it back to a half decent car due to the neglect of the previous owner as a hobby more than anything.
the cossies do have soul where as the evos dont,
perhaps when my st2 arrives next thursday ill get bored of that if it doesnt do anything wrong

they were rapid though
as for the cav sri, the 85 ones were only 1.8's, the 87 ones started to become 2.0 and then you had the sri 130, whihc my cousin had
a stonkly quick car for the time (20 years ago) but the speedo over read by HUUUUGE margins
they didn't handle
and they stopped even worse
a single stop from an indicating 120 would be enough to cook the brakes

The EVO is unquestionably the better car - fact!
I dont need to own one to accept this!

By definition, the average cosworth owner has his car as a weekend toy, usually because they are both old now, and rather unreliable at times ! (Sorry guys, but it is true!)
By definition, therefore, most of us have different cars that we use for the Week! I for one have an M5 that is my daily car, and I can happily confirm that it is significantly more accomplished than most cosworths (in standard form), and frankly quite a lot of EVOs!
The point is that most EVO owners have them as their only cars because they are still new and reliable enough to be just that - an every day car. Fair play to you . I for one nearly bought one before buying the M5, but eventually decided that I wanted something a little less taxing for the every day stuff, and possilby a little more refined. Not a judgement - just a statement of my own personal interpretation.
If I ever did sell the cossie, I would possibly consider buying an EVO.
Of course there are those that will only see Cosworth (just as there are those that will just see EVO, Subaru etc etc etc.). These people are usually pretty closed minded. But be wary of tarnishing us all with the same consideration
Referring to the other link specifically, blinkers off, untuned, there are far better cars than any of the above discussed cars. Equally, Cosworth owners are right to be proud of the heritage of their car as a road car, and as a touring car. To question this smacks somewhat of jealousy, rather than genuine reasoned debate.
I would also have to say that the Lancia was deffo the better car in standard form! If only they managed to work out which side to put the steering wheel! LOL
At the end of the day, to argue about the superiority of an EVO over a Cosworth is a little pointless! There has been 10 years off of development time! If it was any less than astonishingly better, it would be an embarrassment!
As an example, the Current M5 (the V10, not the one that I have) develops approx 500bhp! - In a saloon car! ten years ago, Ferrari wouldnt have even considered making a car with that much power! Things move on!

Evo's are the car of the moment & have been for some time but it will come to an end ! Then certain owners will just move on to the next big thing that they can brag about to their mates.
I like to think I own a Cosworth for more than bragging rights if there are any nowadays. Wonder how many EVO / Scooby owners can say the same ????

JJ
but he didn't leave much of a neritage behind him
times do move on but without comparing cars from yesteryear where would we be?
in the same place we are now with no one making the bits for cossies anymore in the same way that they do for golfs and will, undoubtedly do, for the jap crowd
20 years ago the cossie was king, nowadays it's not, but that doesn't mean you have to slate it for not being competative with a modern, 23 years down the line car, whihc is what i think mlr are doing rather than actually accepting that they were the daddy back then
comparing them to cavaliers back in the day is the same as comparing a mk1 golf gti to a lambo in terms of how big the gulf is
(incidently, the 1.8 cavs had 112 bhp, the 2.0 had 115 and the sri 130's had, you guessed it, 130 brake)

I have driven EVO's and Scooby, yes they are quick and yes the are fun to drive.
BUT after driving my friends EVO 8 i got bored of it within half an
hour
I could not wait to get back in the escos, yes it feels old skool, not so
smoooth and not so "helpful"
But i love every minuite i am driving it, and the sapp well, thats just a rwd
toy you can play with all day long
Depends what you want really, most people think i am mad !
wanting to drive round in old cars and spend so much cash on them.
But every time they come out with me, IT ALL becomes clear, so many
have said " I think i am going to get a cossie "..
Yes i would love a 911 GT2 but, i know i would get bored of it within six
months.
My cossie's are my main hobbie, when you re-build it yourself, get it set
up, put yer foot down you can think " I BUILT THIS " ......
Any when you toast a car that some poor bugger has spent 50k on it and
thinks he is king, now thats just plain funny..

NOT FACT
The evo is a better car in your opinion.
The newest production Ford Cosworth as old as the ark and no comparision to an evo apart from they're both 4x4 and both have 2.0 4cy 16v turbo engines.
Peronsally I'm not a fan of them but would own one if it wasn't for the theft and carjacking issues related to inner cities..
I only choose cosworths as I have expereince of them and I have friends into them and I can see no other real option out there to replace them.
Anyway- world is too big to argue over who's is best as long as we all have good cars and agree that anything with a chav bodykiy on is shit its ok

I think its quite sad and neurotic that the MLR owners have to slag off a cossie. Why do they feel threatened by a 23 year old design?
Why cant both sets of owners enjoy them for what they are. Two different motor cars from two different era's both with awesome performance compared to their contemporaries.
However only time will tell if the other one achieves 'legendary' status

i'm going to stick my neck out
a early homologation escort cosworth is better than a early evo
and if you can't agree
but
a standard late evo is better than a standard escort cosworth
its obvious really

sorry my comment was supposed to have a ---> at the end.
what I meant was, jealous of the fact that they've been round longer, hence more people have owned one, or been in one, than maybe Evo's, Scoobies etc. Wasn't a serious comment.
