Default Pug 306 Problem

Anyone know much about 306 1.9TD’s? My 1998 ‘S’ Meridian daily runner has started to not like running very well when started from cold, it seems like it’s running on three and puts out a bit of smoke too, this has just started happening after not using the car for two weeks….any idea’s?

Cheers

I was gonna say it's probably because it's been sat up mate, doubt it's even been started has it!

Give it a good run and get it nice and hot, see how it goes over the next couple of days regular use?

Cheers guy's, yea, it’s been sat up probably for 2 and a half weeks and no it hasn’t been started in between It’s done it for the past two days, it does clear after about 15 seconds or so and then it is fine…. Will be doing about 200miles in it this weekend so that should be plenty for a good run

1,One or more of the glow plugs are probably shot, if memory serves the glow plug light only stays on (indicating plug failure) if all 4 are dead.
2,One other thing to try is to give the bleed bulb a quick squeeze
in case you've had a little air ingress.
But my money would be on No1

Thanks for the suggestions I was thinking glow plugs but though't that would indicate trouble actually turning over / starting ? perhaps not?

its probably 1 glow plug dead. take the easy ones out first and test them by earthing the body and putting 12v positive to the top KEEPING YOUR HANDS CLEAR OF THE BASE! if it takes ages to glow red hot (over 5 seconds is slow) or doesnt glow at all its no good. put a new one and test from cold. hope this helps.
