Strange question. Re Welder.
What sort of welder do they use on programs like American chopper/Overhaulin.
Its not mig or Arc it looks more like well I dunno. They do feed the gap with a rod though.

They use a Tig for the the finer bits and a 'normal' mig for larger stuff.
We do as well, for example when you weld a bracket to a frame you'd use the mig but work on a petroltank or oiltank, exhaust and things like that you'd use the Tig.

Mine (cheap one) will do up to about 3mm and run for about 5mins before it auto cuts out.
You need a bottle of pure argon as well

Mig is easier for bigger stuff, easier to fill larger gaps and penetrates deeper in those conditions.
Tig is much more precise and cleaner looks wise.
i should really start a topic on my bike build but I hardly ever take pics

TIG or TUNGSTEN INERT GAS, is also a hell of a lot more controllable especially if manual footed and stronger welds by a long way, much dearer to use and buy though.
Despite all the controls the most used one is your foot, unless on dodgy auto mode, as you can control the heat generated much more precisely in real time with the foot control, they may look daunting but are easy to use when you have stopped ELECTROCUTING YOURSELF!!
A common mistake is to touch the filler rod on the tip of the torch, which then needs cleaning by grinding /file etc and this gives you a good belt!!
