Default Aftermarket brakes for 2WD Cosworth

I know this is a repost, but I want to lay out the options, and see the general consensus and updated opinions.

Option 1.

Bite bullet and buy AP racing 330mm disc conversion for front - worry about rear another day

Option 2.

With same amount of money buy Comp B4 brake 330mm brake kit for front, and also rear brake modification kit that allows 300mm discs to be fitted rear.

Option 3.
Willwood equivalent to the above, though it seems to be a 323mm disc, and a 6pot calliper.

option 4.

Any other suggestions.

I want to spend about 1k

I would say AP's are the best option.

330/4-pot set up on Phil 2400 saph......he runs standard rear brakes:

As said above the Ap's are by far the best option but for the rear for now i have put 4x4 discs and calipers on the rear of my 2wd saph and all round an excellant braking package IMO

Thats the set up i am running and not had any problem when out on track. You would need second hand AP's though to cover your budget.

Not heard any complaints about Comp Brake though. Churchy is running that set up and finds it to be good, hes not used it on track yet though.

I am a big Wilwood fan so if you can get a Set of AP's in your price range this would be my choice.

Comp brakes JJ... you get the front and rears for the same price as the AP fronts.

And they work.

And Discs and pads are cheaper with Comp Brake stuff.

I see no point in spending more money to get the same job done....

I like the comp brake stuff ,,superb value for the money ,, why pay the big AP prices just for the sake of it

Thanks for all the feedback guys - most appreciated.

I am still torn - I think that there are good arguments for both. Phils car brakes exceptionally well.

I dont remember much of Si's, but I seem to recall that it was pretty good also, so I know both work.

I have already converted the rears to 4x4 calipers.

I am still torn! The Comp stuff does look like really good value, but the AP stuff is tried and tested. Hmmmm..

Yes you can mate

Go buy a designer label shirt and wash it 20 times ,, then do the same with a shirt from ASDA , see what your paying for ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,

NOTHING ,, both shirts will do the same job ,,just one has a more desirable label

AP are a great brake upgrade and work vey well , but the comp brake stuff also works very very well , just that they dont charge the earth like AP do because AP has the name and they can get away with it

You can certainly improve the standard braking cheaply with a set of Ferodo DS3000s, 2-piece discs, braided hoses and Castrol SRF to stop the fluid from boiling (which being cast (pig) iron ), is absolutely essential.

I tend to agree with you on this - I have never really been a label fiend! I have been really impressed with the Comp stuff, and they are a smaller company that you can talk to for bits and pieces!

Also, I dont mind admitting I am a little scared of the disc and pad price for the APs - They are quite scary. I also have a mate (exception granted rather than rule) that has had a little trouble with his as they have got older.

foreigneRS - I know your stance on this . Trouble is my calipers are getting a little older, and I have a friend who needs a pair for his Fiesta that he races. And I would like to gift him my old ones as a thanks for all the work he has done for me on the ever-troublesome engine!
