Get one of these

http://cgi.ebay.com/OREGON-SCI-WIREL...QQcmdZViewItem

Order it from the States as the prices over here are a rip off

Fully self contained, records onto a 2gb SD card which gives you over an hour of footage

Just got back from a snowboarding/skiing trip. One of my mates took an Archos unit with him along with a bullet cam which was fixed to a headband. The unit has 80Gb storage IIRC. Pic quality was excellent!

Not really. It's for the bike and it's still too cold

I've got a ten second clip I filmed at my desk the day it arrived

Me and one of my mates have tried a few for Snowboarding/trackdays/mountainbiking. He ordered an ATC-2000 and upon testing outside with varying lights etc found it to be completely useless. The picture quality was crap so that got sent back.

In the end we both went for 520 line camera kits from http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/ recording to DV camcorders. The picture quality and durability far outweighs anything from the cheap efforts with memory cards. I have also heard of big reliability problems using Archos' and people taking them snowboarding only for the footage to be jerky/buffering unless the unit is held mega smooth and the units breaking completely after one or two days!

My friend also bought a hard drive recorder (of the exact same specs as the Archos) as a backup to the camcorder, and using exactly the same camera etc on 640x480 at 30fps the picture quality is just so much worse than using the DV camcorder it really is crap!

So in summary, after doing much research I would recommend a 520line kit and a DV camcorder plus LANC remote etc. It works very well

I would get some comparison samples up from all the kits we tried but I don't have time!

Phil totally agree

we were buggering about on a jump on ski's. my mate carrying the archos with the camera strapped to his head went first and didn't exactly land it properly when he got back on his ski's he waited for me to come down, which i did a bit too quickly, didn't get my weight forward on the vertical bit of the ramp and flew through the air landing on my arse with vertical skis. would've looked awesome on camera, but the archos didn't record it as it had been shocked by his crash

in the past i used the bulletcam connected to minidv camcorder and had no probs. only thing is it's bulkier and then you have to capture onto pc etc which all takes time. i wanted something to record reasonably small digital files for sharing, which the archos does.

the ones that use a solid state memory card will obviously be more reliable regarding shock etc, but will have poorer quality due to smaller amount of storage
