Cossie 4x4 Transmission
Just re read an article in a Ford mag (cant remember which one) and theres a magenta saff with 500hp and standard 4x4 running gear...
Everything ive heard about 4x4s is that they shit diffs and gearboxes above 300? or can you just not use it till 3rd?
Might keep mine if it can handle around 350 reliably

if he drives carefully, no launches and not on the power too hard after every gearchange, it will live for a while.
he an old geezer, doubt he tears the shit outa it.
half the people on here seem to have a powerful motor to try n show off rather than properly use anyhow

500 prob is if he dont really hammer it in 3rd, no launches, no rushed gearchanges, etc.
Same as Skylines, some people manage just fine on stock transmission with 1000bhp
But driven hard and youl be smashing boxes to bits with 550.

its Malcolm Detchons car, i wrote it for FF lol
it the ex castle performance demo car, his spec said std but with a padle clutch, he said he doesnt launch the car at all, but once rolling gives it shit and it sounds like he has seen the wrong side of 140 a few times lol
and the guy is 70 pmsl
i think he does use it a bit, early on sunday mornings when the roads are clear lol
or his noble

ok so you can have the power, you just gotta be a tart with it
3rd gear weak as well then?
This ones ran stage 2ish for 40k and still feels a very nice box. Dont think ill up the power.
Thanks for the info

i've always found it to be the input shaft bearings that went on mine, but i was running a V6 twin turbo on the drive side of the gearbox and i used to use it very lazyly and the torque just twists it around and does the bearing
i've found that hard changes tend to kill the syncro rings in second, the box doesn't change quick enough so you have to forever leave it a little bit longer to be able to mexh properly, even though the syncros are supposed to help i was forever crunching into second and sometimes third
and the change from 3rd to second isn't to hot either if you are ragging it
driven gently without giving it death out of every rev will see them last, a guy i knew was running a fair amount of power through his but it was only when he went and did a few track days and sprints etc that the box decided it had had enough and shat itself, 2 or 3 times by his reckoning
mine, well, i've had a box last me 26 miles before it threw in the twoel and left oil all over the M1 just as you go up the hill at scratchwood services but not giving it large and not rushing every single gear change and they will last ages
mush more important is the clutch you use, i'll find the pics of a stadard xr4x4 clutch that has literally disintergrated with just 220 horses going through it
