Default Back from Santa Pod!! post your times here

what a day....firstly the car ran faultlessly, not a missfire or a breakage at all.....in fact i felt kinda sad that the screwdrivers didn't have to come out at all

the track was shit!! although it was my first time up the 1/4, i was expecting loads of grip, so i launch at 5.5k,and spin halfway up the track i honestly could have done faster on the road

only got 3 runs in too, i was progressively faster,and with a little more practice i'd be in the 12's piss easy, i just couldn't get it off the line with any momentum whatsoever

my times were;

ET 14.96 @ 109.8mph 60ft =2.81

ET 13.62 @ 113.9mph 60ft =2.59

ET 13.32 @ 114.8mph 60ft = 2.54

so kinda pissed off,but happy in the knowledge it will go much faster than that,maybe some slicks would be a good idea too

gonna just go to Stratford next time though,see what the surface is like there

i knew it wouldn't break to be honest

i can defo see a 12, in fact if i'd have stuck around i reckon i'd have got one today, all 3 runs were rubbish driving on my part, so just one good run and i'd have done it

my aim is low 12's really....i'll be delighted with that i WILL do it

Should have come and said Hello !

Yeah was taking it easy, as 280 miles away from home did not really want the diff to go bang LOL We in a travel inn for the night tonight near Elvington, but would have been a pain in the ass getting a broken Cossie home tomorrow. So off the line i wasent the best

Had fun tho and its given me a bit more experience !

Martin,
You should have experimented with launching at less and less revs. With my 0.48 a/r housing, the optimium was 3500rpm to get the best compromise between grip / wheelspin. I could get the 60fts to 2.0s to high 2.1s. Did 12s runs all the time.

The 0.63 a/r was a different kettle of tuna, and 3500rpm and it would bog, and 3750rpm and it would light the tyres up. Anything in between would get a fraction of wheelspin followed by bogging - it was much more difficult to modulate and the 60 ft times went to pot and it would only see 12s runs every now and again when you managed to control the wheelspin, but still prevent it from bogging.

I think you will need a Grp A rear beam or drag radials to get it to grip - normal track slicks are a waste of time at Santa Pod, unless you can do several runs back to back without queuing (where they just cool down).

Yep... I can relate to that. Even with 4WD and locking my centre diff, when I ran at Stratford the back end of last year it was a cold day, I had cold R888's and road tyre pressures. I lit the wheels up in 1st and 2nd and the car was all over the place. The only saving grace is that I still managed a 12.5s pass and 0-60ft in 1.6s..... imagine how the fooker would of gone had it been better conditions.

Mike Rainbird

thanks for the info,useful as ever

my first disastrous run was from 5.5k,and just slid and slid til i hit 3rd gear, my second was around 3750,and i bogged it

third time was a little higher but with more wheelspin,too much by far...but that said i think had the track been grippier it would have been a good run??

i'd like to hear other opinions about the track today, there was a subaru legacy that was fairly tame,but he was lighting all 4 tyres up with ease
RWD_cossie_wil

at the moment just standard with polys,koni's with ahmed springs

i suffered from tramping too..how dya cure this???

next time i run i'll have more power (end of march at stratford) so i'll either suffer more wheelspin but with higher terminal, or i'll break summat

as Mike R says, gotta be looking at a decent rear beam set-up, try and get more than 1/8 of the tyres on the track , my 360BHP 2wd was exactly the same spec as yours rear end wise, and it was a mare' to launch cleanly, and I bet you find the inside edges of your tyres wear massivly compared to the rest of the rear tyres?

i run the xr2 at pod today

best time of the day was

13.9 @ 104.6mph

alot of wheelspin in 1st/2nd so room for improvement

getting the power down with FWD on the newly laid tarmac was fooking mission impossable

1/8th = 90.55mph
1000ft = 11.110
1/4 = 13.127 @ 115.59mph

Im a bit suprised yours does not pull harder than mine over the last 1/8th

Mine put on 25.04mph and yours was 24.84mph.

Just had another look at the figures

Your 2nd 1/8th is 4.299sec

My 2nd 1/8th is 4.298 sec

Strange how they can be so close with such different specs.

You haven't posted up you 60ft times though, as every 0.1s you gain here is worth 0.2 by the end, so if you went on a grippier day, that could be the reason .

xr2i-carl

around 420bhp at the moment...

although i have to admit i've managed to lose a bit of boost since fitting my air box..

cossie4i

i agree to an extent, but it's hard to compare it like that, i mean yours could have arrived at the 1/8th higher up the revs,with more momentum and that gave you a good run to the line.....

so although the speed may have been the same, we may have been at different points in the revs etc.

post your slip now, i'm intrigued

i will get a 12 though trust me,that track sucked

60ft = 2.395
330ft = 6.052
1/8th = 8.829
1/8th = 90.55mph
1000ft = 11.110
1/4 = 13.127
1/4 = 115.59mph

I run 17s with 205/40 tyres

I am more interested in the last 1/8th time, the first 1/8th is so hard to get right

I was there in my Rover, ran a 13.7 @ 104mph, managed to get a 2.3s 60ft on my normal road tyres running them at just under 20psi pressure.

To be honest I didn't find the track 'too' slippery although there was a hell of a head wind, think that must be worth at least 0.3 - 0.5secs.

Cheers, saw your car there, managed to see you on one run, looked very nice.

That's a good time too, same terminal as me which is impressive, what sort of power are you running?

My terminals were similar to what I was running at last years totb and 0.5secs slower.

Although I was running full interior and crappy road tyres I'm 50-70bhp more now, so just shows how the conditions can effect it.

Think I'm gonna go to the fast show in a couple of weeks see if I can improve.
