cheers for the replies gents, I just cant seem to find anything appropiate anywhere. Tryed google, wilkpedia and all the usual internet sites that normally see me through. The question ive got is "you will research various types of design compensators and discuss the merits of each". Its something to do with pole zeros apparantly but none of that makes any bloody sense either. Was hoping someone could explain it in laymans terms. Bastard lecturer is a right drunk bastard, might just print all manner of shite out and let him sift through it all

its HNC electrical engineering, so unappropiate to my job you wouldnt believe fucking about with electronics at college and commission 11KV switchgear at work

I thought it might be electrical engineering.... here, have some random links .

pole zero compensation

Not an area of my expertise I'm afraid.

My basic grasp of it is some form of feedback loop, whereby undesired results are compensated for. e.g. in a D.C. motor for example?
Westside, no one knows everything If I win the lottery, I'll possibly go back to being a full time student (of various things) So much to learn, so little time to do it
Gareth, I reckon the basic theory is the same as is applied to compensation maps in an ECU -e.g. Battery voltage compensation etc..

Kirchoff's Voltage Law (KVL)
The voltage law says that the sum of voltages around every closed loop in the circuit must equal zero. A closed loop has the obvious definition: Starting at a node, trace a path through the circuit that returns you to the origin node. KVL expresses the fact that electric fields are conservative: The total work performed in moving a test charge around a closed path is zero.
design compensator works in the same way and to achive the results you need you may apply it to anything....
