I personally think that if people can see the part they potentially want to buy on your site, then you have a BETTER chance of selling the part. Not talking about every part obviously, just the parts that people may expect a photo of to asses the condition for themselves.

Im pretty sure that some people will search for a part, find your site, see a part with no photo available, then search and find the same part elsewhere with a photo and buy that one instead. People feel more comfortable buying a part they can see, its human nature mate.

Say if you were to try it and you did gain extra sales, you can then weigh up the pro's and con's and calculate whether its worth the extra hassle against the extra sales gained. If it is, then you win. Then decide if its worth while employing someone part time to concerntrate on the pics and site. If it isnt worth doing it, then at least you know you gave it a try and it didnt work mate.

Thats how id do it anyway mate as i personally feel that pics do sell certain products, especially with second hand parts.
some very good points to think about I just cant understand why people who dont you from Adam who call out of the mags are quite happy to talk to you and accept what you say then on this site where I persoanlly have been trading since day 1 wants photos of parts which look the same as any other
I can accept people like to see a photo of a car but not a suspension kit or a turbo
I dont know what ever next
Pete
It has nothing to do with how long you have been trading or who you are selling to. A simple picture gives the customer an insight into what they are letting you charge their card for and can also stamp out confusion i.e. he wants a gear shift mech but asks for a stick (presuming it comes complete!). If I had been sent a photo of a part I was going to buy today beforehand it have saved the guy a wasted 150 mile round trip and would have saved me the embarrassment of having to reject the part!
Martin.

I think people just wanna see a pic to have proof the part actually esists. I never care about seeing pics really. But I dont tend to buy stuff of unknown members on sites unless I am collecting the part.

ive never delt with NORTH YORKS RS SPARES or Pete,RS Specialists
so i wouldnt know what your like at saying yes there mint and get
some shit sent to me,,,,,,,,

what you need to ask yourself is have you ever had a bad name on
here for selling crap for example you say its mint and its not then
some poor sod has lost out......

i can see your point it does piss me of when somone say's take a pic
of the engine but its no diffrent to any other its only an engine.....

if thay say trim or alloy's yes that is fine but dont forget pics dont
mean jack shit it show's the item but wouldnt show all marks would
it, as for customer not everyone is allways right beleave me ive delt
with some right wankers that think thay know it all

dont think im getting at anyone as im not im only asking you 2 traders
if you have had bad experiance on selling an item that wasnt what
you stated it was i.e mint or not

im quite shocked that the two traders who say they do the least of their business OFF the net spend a hell of a lot of their time ON the net

and pics , they really do take ages to do, pick up mobile phone, press button send pic done, how long does that take ? it doens need to be posted on the net, 99.9% of people have mobile phones these days.

and if i wanted a part, and asked or a pic, if you were not prepared to oblige i would take my business elsewhere, hence why ebay does so well .....TIM

do you really think we have time to photo every part we sell ??
Now i do understand sometimes a photo is needed for a rare or unusuall part but why ask for basically standard items which all look exactly the same ??
Anyone who uses a trader off this sites knows damm well what they say is what tey get and if something isnt quite rght you know it can be sent back
so this is a serious question which I would like a serious answer too
as in the past i have sent photo only to never hear anything again
i did not read true the post but just the first line. or two from what u did writhe.. 1 pics says more that a 1000 word! That is why buyers want a pics!

People want to see what they are buying!

well, just did read that one to from u. Well if the customer is not happy with what he or she did buy.. they can just return it.. Thats the rules in Norway... customers is always right! But a pics is not as to see a thing in real life.. things looks different in a picture and in real life...

on example is my old car: vw golf 1,

I was selling it, did take some pics.. and there it looks smooth, very nice.. no rust, nothing..(yap, paint jobb) and when u did see it in real life.. its a very poor paint job, done with spraycans.. so a picture does not tell 100% truth

OT did sell it for a lot more then i did buy it for

But surely that would cost a fortune?

Personally if it's a standard part/serviceable item so to speak then i would trust traders generally, and i have done in the past. But if it's an uprated item then i would like to see it first. More from just a peace of mind point of view.

I would have bet every penny i own you would have put that exact reply

If you look Mark at how many times i have bothered to post items for sale on here in the last 12 months i think you will find its next to nothing
I do very little trade from any website simply because they ALL have bedroom traders who undercut us and make us look expensive , so i choose not to bother much
I also cant realy be bothered with e/bay either as i find that most who buy from e/bay cant read a simple description in your listing and are just total tossers ,
I know Tim uses nothing but E/bay and if it works for him thats great , but its not for me
I would also ask you mark why because i use this site a lot you think im dependant on it for my business ??

As i have stated in this post ,, I will give piccs of items i feel justify piccs ,,ie ,, Trims / wheels / bumpers etc ( hi vision items ) but i just dont have the time to post piccs of an amal valve / pressure reg etc etc

And to take piccs on your mobile , are you serious Have you thought what the cost would be ?? and the quality of the piccs would be crap

business tariffs are not expensive and its a claimable expense as used for business, not a problem for a straight up cards in business person.

but you pay the traders fee mate ?

i know you dont actually post "for sale" but you are still here showing your sig and saying 'im here for your RS parts' ut im not go ing to detract the fact that you use this site as it could also be for pleasure and because you like the Rs/ford brand.

i buy lots from the likes of ebayer because its so simple, i dont have to speak to anybody, i dont waste time being on the phone for 10 mins asking questions about the item, i work 50-60 hours a week as well as run my own business, chatting on the phone is something i dont have time for, and when i do have free time its usually after 8pm, and who would want ringing at that time chatting about cars ........ not me

hang on,why does it matter if youve been trading here since day 1?if someone joins the site today, they dont know who you are etc....and if they havent seen the particular type of turbo before when they order it from you why not send a pic?how long can it take?if i take a pic now,i can remove the card from camera and put it in card reader, thats 5 seconds, then it shows up on my drive.thats it.5 seconds work!i would certainly want to see pics of ANY item i bought from yourselves as regardless of your reputations, ive never met you, dont know you other than a few posts that seem as if you dont give a fuck about your customers, and as for the human touch or however you put it,do you hide your products under a cloth until someone has paid for it if they come in in person?of course not, they will want to see the quality of the item first,as even if it DOES look EXACTLY the same as every other thing there then it may not be what they are after. and as for people asking for pics then not buying stuff, ive mentioned this before somewhere, its THEIR money!if they see the item and decide they dont want it,thats THEIR decision, not yours,i can go into a shop and spend all day looking at tv's etc...and come away having changed my mind if i like, its my money and ill dam well look at what i want to buy with it.

Paul,
You're saying all traders can be trusted??

Pete,
Pictures can tell people an awful lot about the condition of parts Personally if I want to see a picture of a part before spending cash on it then i'll ask...if the seller can't be bothered i'll take my money to someone who can.

The traders on here are supposedly trustworthy but I've heard bad stories over the years... not all are trustworthy and I wouldn't assume just because some people claim you to be trustworthy that you actually are.

Oh and stop moaning...if it bothers you that much get a different job/business.

Totally agree

Pics are important to get a view on condition

I've seen many things for sale and thought ooo that sounds great, then scroll down to see the pic and I don't like it (and visa-versa)

You would not then give me a refund on the basis that I don't like it would you!
