Default FAO any bikers

Im building a kit car and want to use a bike engine to power it. It will weigh under 400kg and was wondering what engine options i have. Id prefer something around 120bhp or more but needs to be reliable dont want to have to rebuild it every 5 mins. I'll have up to about £7-800 to spend on one. I know i could get a blade, R1 etc just wondering what other engines there are out there. Would like to get hold of a damaged bike and strip it so i dont have to keep searching for parts bit by bit.

Cheers

suzki haybusa mate , 1300 cc

plenty of companies using them for kit cars so good for conversion parts , linkages ect

170 bhp in standard unfettled trim

u could detune it and the upp the power ask ur confidence grows ,

+ turbo kits availabe from the likes of big cc and holeshot

350 bhp sound nice to u ?/

deffo the best option mate

might be the best option but at about £2500 for an engine its a bit steep.

Hoping to be building one of these. Its an Onyx Mongoose. There prototype was fitted with a 1400 k series rover unit with 100bhp and about 450kg. Hopefully with about 120+bhp and less than 400kg it will be a good match for a busa powered car.

"better getting a engine with a big clutch have been in a few cars with bike engines and owners always say they wish they went for a older engine with bigger clutch Confus"

been thinking this already but i dont know a great deal about bikes. Just want to know what options ive got. The engine does'nt have to be new at all it just needs to have a decent amount of power but not weigh too much. over 100bhp would be ok because of the weight id be saving.

We've picked up a Suzuki GSXR1000 engined Smart roadster in the UK last year, I drove it back home from Calais and we've rebuild it now with LOADS of improvements to make it more driveable and it's going to be used as a daily driver now by some Greek fella!

a 1000 4 pot will have enough power, the smart weighs a fair bit more and was properly fast and entertaining!

Busa engines (like you say ) will fetch a premium.

What about kawasaki zx12r or Honda blackbird engines? Maybe they are a cheaper option (although I haven't looked) Or maybe even a ZZR1100 engine, they are prob cheap'ish.

just had a look while writing this..

what about a sneaky offer on this?

What about the Yamaha Thunderace engine ?
Runs on carbs with no ram air to worry about, revs well and makes 120 bhp rear wheel horsepower on a bike. 1002cc twin cam 20 valve with the exup valve to give more low end torque. A billet clutch basket would be a good idea though as they can break the stock cast ones causing trouble.
My FZR1000 used a stock thunderace crank and rods with billet clutch basket and made a very relible 209 rwhp at 10 psi.

ZX12 or Busa engines are made for the weight of a big bike and IMO would suit a small kit car and they are modern. You pay a premium on a busa engine for a good reason!! They are great! Bullet proof and well tunable, plus loads of people have already tuned them/turbo'd them so you've got something to go on!! (just type in turbo busa on google, you'll be up all night watching vids!!)

ZZR1100 is a stonking engine but its getting a bit wrinkly now! As for the bird engine, it is reliable as you like, but I've not seen many highly tuned ones. Don't know why??
