How the hell did this happen?? (Now with photo).
My car was in the garage having some bodywork, And when it came back all was fine and the work was excellent. But the next day I pulled down my sun visor to look in the mirror (Inside the sunvisor) and it's all smashed. Any panel beaters on here ever broke one while putting a side on a car?
P.S It was fine when it went in nobody had been in the car other than me.
I've never known one of these to break or get broken. You ever had one break?

Depends, if it has been baked too long in the oven and the mirror was slightly dodgy, it has been known to crack.
Can you see a central point, or is the crack from side to side?
It happens in our place sometimes with windscreens, a small stone-chip in the windscreen can spread dramatically when in the oven @ 60-80 degrees. Can't see why it would be different with a sunvisor mirror.

Perhaps, like most garages I know, they leave the keys above the sun visor at night, someone could have thrown the keys up behind the sunvisor and let the visor smack back up and broke the glass

go back and ask them how it's been broken as it was fine when you left the car with them
don't ask for names and addreses, just ask for it to be repaired as it's not safe having a face full of glass potentially awaitng spearing into your face
have you signed the disclaimer to say everythng was fine?
if so i'm sure you can go back and unsign this

I would have to agree with the others, that has been damaged. A single crack plus maybe that bump would have been down to heat, but there is a definite impact point.
My suspicion would be that when they have stripped the car out, they have put the parts in the car and something has been smacked into it when they have shut the door or something similar.
We used to get that a lot in my place with interiors, sideskirts and sometimes bumpers until I had some racks made when I joined and had everything moved to storage "units".
Do not take the unit out, if you do, you are nulifying their responsibility because you cannot then prove that it was them or that it is from your car (even with it missing) as you were the last person to fiddle with it. They could argue that you have damaged it removing it and are trying to claim from them. Are there any marks on the rooflining in that location (or near it)? I would place some sellotape over the glass, shut the lid and place the visor to the rooflining until you can get back there. And remember, go in shouting and screaming and you have already lost. Go in nice and polite, ASKING them to see, not TELLING them it is their fault and they will probably be more helpful.
Then, if it fails, contact the insurance company and inform them, and they will withold the appropriate payment until it is sorted out to THEIR (the insurance company) satisfaction.

If its a hatchback then my money is on it getting smashed by the seats headrest when theyve tilted it, and letting it slam forward. We used to have loads of these smash and many windscreens too, especially in the new corsas with the hard plastic headrest backs.

The garage have refused to pay and said 'It's not possible it could of been done in here as we only moved the car from the carpark to the workshop and back out again. and we never went in the car once while working on it'. Which according to my brother is not possible when putting a full side on a car and I could tell he was talking through his arse before his mouth opened. So I did as people said and phoned my insurance company and explained I was 100% Sure it was done while in the bodyshop and they said 'We will phone the garage and ring you back'. They rang me back and said 'The garage said it was not done there so they are not liable'.
Anyway, the my 'Quest' to find out how it happend has come to a stop, and I'm off to fords tomorow to hopefully buy another one.

Buy one from a dealer and keep the receipt. Do not throw the old one away either.
They must have gone inside the car to put a 1/4 on as you need to strip the inside cards to remove any padding and to gain access for sound-deadening pads, interior rust prevention treatment, cleaning of joints, removal of old materials, sealing of joints with sealer, and to prevent air tools from going through.
Trust me, my bodyshop do quarter panels and whole bodysides every day. If a car needs a 1/4 panel, the interior 1/4 cards and boot lining comeout, all wiring is held up out of danger, rear seat is removed (bench and back on working side) and rooflining either removed if close to repair or covered with flame-proof cover if not removed.
Did you have a whole bodyside or just a 1/4, because a whole bodyside would definitely need visors to be removed, along with a lot more besides.
The only way that they would have needed to not go inside the car for a 1/4 was if they had repaired it with filler, in which case, I would take the panels off inside myself and check, with photographic evidence.
If it has been repaired, go back to the insurance company and state that the repair is not to your satisfaction as the car was not originally repaired with filling materials, and that you would like a 1/4 panel to be fitted. And cause a storm over it.
BTW, you can also state if / when the insurance company back down (which they always do when a customer complains hard enough) that you want it taken elsewhere due to damage caused by the original repairer.
Curiously, can you post a pic or two up of the original damage, I can probably tell you what should and has been done.
