Default Anti-Virus Advice

Its that time of the year again and all our machines at work require their anti-virus / firewall renewal, last year i was led to believe that Zone Alarm / Labs was the best thing since sliced bread How wrong was I

Theres 5 Workstations and we all work over a wireless network through a networking hub,

Anyone that could point me in the direction of a good programme ???

What do you peeps use and opinions !!!

Regards - Adi

Its 2 different programs. AVG is grisoft. Its not the best but okish. I found black ice firewall/IDS to be quite good when i tested it out but as its more of an intrusion detection system expect more alerts than others, even on legitimate things. Obviously these can be configured.

Myself after trying a whole load out after reading reviews i found Kaspersky, Nod32 and Trend micros pc cilin to work the best, anti virus wise. When i say work the best i mean ones that detected the best in all methods and did what they were supposed to with good features and customisation not sit there be convenient and keep me happy. With AVG and Norton i found a couple of things they could not remove.

Best to get hold of a load put test them on a spare pc and infect yourself with worms, viruses and trojans, look for the usual emailed attachment virurs we all get spammed or send them yourself and also go on malicious sites like crack or warez sites to see how good it blocks via the web,

I'd say get your software firewall seperately rather than all in one, if it comes with one like sygate or trend micro security suite then just don't install that part.

NOD32 is the best for protection IMO (working on normal people budget). Check out the 30 day trial, it uses barely any resource (unlike norton, pc cillin etc) and has an amazing detection rate. I have an IT business and this is all we resell all day long, never any complaints, ever.

Download the trial from www.eset.co.uk

pm me if you need any more info or a discount !!!

its the virus manufacturers who create the viruses IMO. Eg antivirus software developer #1 writes a virus but at the same time ensures that thier own customers updates contain protection from said virus. they then unleash the virus so that users of other software get infected and hence #1 is seen as the best.
