Integra easily... Dont see any problems using it every day either. I had a turbocharged Civic with B16A2 engine and 300bhp, used it every day from April to October. So standard or near standart Integra wont be a problem. And if you decide to modify there is much more stuff available for the Integra than Clio. Get a JDM one though, the EDM front looks shit

my missues has the 172 and it hndles like a treat, i dont know why people bang on about build quality it dosnt rattle or squeak at all inside infact in feels and looks like new, the seats are lovely just get rid of the shite bus steering wheel and your fine, i reakon her 172 would easily out handle my m3, there pretty nippy as well she has had i little bit of work done, but id say forget the crap that they are bad build quality coz there not,

but id also recommend the itr my mate has one and its a great fun car to own

Here is an excerpt from the "Car" mag Best Handling Day 97.

ITR is highly praised but a really honourable mention must go to the 106Gti for value for money and only with 120bhp - only 0.7 seconds behind the ITR - great handling little fwd car as well

I'll scan up the Autocar Best Handling Car 1998 one later with the ITR in if anyone is interested?

Here you go - couldn't get on here at times last night but these
are the links to an article that might interest you on the ITR

It was from an article re the Best Handling Car of 98

Click Here for the Integra Type-R appraisal

Corner Speeds and overall lap times

David Leslie the BTCC driver set all the lap times.

There is a comparison article in Autocar this week between the Clio Trophy and Focus RS with a big slant towards handling

Gotta be:

Focus RS
Integra Type R
Clio 172/182/cup etc.
106 Gti
Racing puma

I don't really know of any others that are in the same class.

Well, you could say Saxo VTS as well as 106GTi.
I think he ruled out the Focus RS initially because of the cost to buy

Ye h to k reg (the only shape crx )

Tbh i dont think the itr is that much better in the hands of an average driver thn say a frs BUT its the way the car makes you feel there just SOOOOOOO exciting to drive its untrue. That said it depends what your idea of fun is some like loads of low down power that a turbo gives some find it more fun to rev the cunt out of a car and rev it to 8k on down changes etc

I get the impression it's the feedback the car gives rather than the speeds it can attain. In that handling test ( above ) the 328i ( with much the same power ) bludgeoned it's way round the track in an identical time but was nowhere near as fun to drive according to the tester's comments. Same, in the other test, marginally quicker than the 2.8 Z3 but they commented it was just a point, squirt and hang on sort of drive rather than an involving experience.
Interesting to see how fast the 106 Gti was considering it's only 120bhp as well

Tbh though the only car i have came up against that could match me in the bends was a old shape impreza which looked to have had some work done, You should have seen his face when i went round the outside of him on a roundabout

And as i've said it would demolish my escort cossie in nearly every situation except straight line pace to 120mph even top speed its quicker. Its 1 of those cars that just keeps you smiling

I take your point - just thought those tests were good as the same driver set the times - probably those tracks didn't suit the ITR? Like you say though, it always depends on the nut behind the wheel........

- Have a look how much faster that Evo 5 was though in the first test.

David Leslie, the BTCC driver, put the lap times in.

You should get one of these...

Toyota Corolla Levin AE111 BZ-R or BZ-G, not many in the UK forsale but loads in Ireland. Can get a nice one for 6k.

They are very similar cars to the Integra Type-R's. If you get a superstrut model, it has Toyota's version on double wishbone and they handle great. (i've got an older model and it's fantastic)

They are 165bhp out of a 1.6, have throttle bodies as standard and some come with 6 speed gearboxes and some also come with LSD's.

Cracking car for the money.

Looks nice - not seen one of those - thought this was even more like a DC2, also from Toyota.
6-speed box
200bhp
LSD
lightened, stiffened shell
Similar character of engine to the ITR

If the VTS/GTI is getting mentioned, the I think it's only right the Zetec-S get's a mention!

Although I think this is over shadowed by the Racing Puma.

Fair enough on the Toyota - was going on the review in the link where it said gave better feedback than an ITR DC5 and was one of the best handling fwd cars they had driven.

To be honest, don't think you'll go wrong with either the ITR or 106GTi/Saxo VTS - all great handling cars
