Lad at work has a gt3rs and uses it every day
Well he did until he binned it into the wall at donnington last year
Says it was a bit harsh but about the same to run as his xk typhoon.

What are you planning on using it for? Track toy or everyday car?
If its track then you have the obvious tyres/brakes to consider. Tyres are not the end of the world but your looking at 800/900 a set. Brakes are very expensive to replace, especially if you find a car with ceramics. You wont get any change out of 15K for 4 discs and pads. (assuming you get Porsche to do it).
For everyday car, I would not go for a GT3 or GT3RS unless you can deal with the boneshaking ride. Go for a decent 997 S or even a 996 Turbo. Much more refined and usable. Again you have the tyres/servicing to consider but thats not too bad really. 996 service intervals are 12,000 miles and 997 is 20,000 if I recall. I think a service on these comes in at about 500 ish.
Hope that helps,

Running costs are on par with a heavily tuned Cossie, providing you stay away from a car (as mentioned above) that has been fitted with ceramic brakes. Saying that, most owners with these brakes take them off, stick them in the loft and fit steel brakes on, ready for putting the ceramics back on for when they sell it .
Porsche is the best value supercar there is for running costs .
GT3s are hardcore and would be my choice, but only because I do LOTS of track days.... Driving one requires re-learning how to drive a normal car, as they are very different, but you should grow old learning something new and enjoying it for a LONG time.
I personally can't get on with the earlier cars with the floor mounted peddles, as it feels really strange - but then I'm sure you'd get used to it.

The ride is very firm and is liveable for daily driving.
On a run he's been seeing 30mpg taking it steady but the noise it makes when it goes past 6000rpm is very addictive
The brakes on a GT3 Mk2 are twice the cost of a Mk1 for some reason Front discs and pads are about £500 for a Mk1 and about £900 for a Mk2

When I was looking at POrsche's albeit the C4S and not the GT3 I was suprised at the servicing intervals on them. Similarly to the CSL i ended up with. Yes servicing costs are between £550 and £650 depending on which one but I still have over 12000 miles to go before its due.
Thats potentially over 2 years of driving with the current limited mileage policy we have.
I think the porsches are similar to the BM's. It tells you when the service is due and if you ragg the arse off it the mileage to service counts down far quicker.
I'll let you know after the first track day if it drops to 6000

Paul a service at £550 how cheap!
My Ferrari is about £1500
BUT its worth every penny as a Ferrari is the ONLY supercar to have...ok mine may only be a humble 348 (pics later for those who aint seen it) but the feeling you get driving and hearing it cannot be matched IMO...its not ALL about how fast it goes round a track
..awaits the haters who only have pictures of cars like this

So would I Gareth, but having been out in a lot of Porsches, they really are something spectacular, especially stuff like the GT3.
I don't think there's a more capable car for the money.....

..as Gareth says...whatever Ferrari you buy costs are the same as the lastest model...thats what makes them exclusive...my 348 was 80k in the early 90,s bare in mind my house thats now worth 200k was worth only 50k back then!

It's the old addage about Rolls Royces when they were something to be reckoned "If you have to ask how much it is, you can't afford it."

I own a garage, so that's what I tell customers....
but when I needed a boot lock for my 500sec merc (£50 genuine only) all I could hear was my voice in my head 'if you can afford...'
but I agrre with the living at home bit, seems stupid to put a ton of cash into a car when the same will pay a house deposit.
The car looses money, the house gains money.
Unless YUM is a mommas boy? but I don't know hime that well
