Default Probably a stupid question, but....

I have a pair of AP four pot calipers that were on a Land Rover Defender (Original Equipment).

Any reason why they couldnt be used on the cossie with appropriate adaptor plates?

to what end?

in my experience, the std 4 pots are excellent when combined with bigger diameter discs to give more braking effort through increased leverage.

i don't think that you need more pad area, as a bigger disc also cools quicker (or at least does not get as hot in the first place)

my brother once used 4 pots off a rover sd1 on his mk1 escort to good effect as they were taken from an abandoned one so were a free upgrade to the 2 pots

Interesting feedback so far,,,

Yes, AP have been providing calipers for Land Rover for a long time. These particular ones are off a 2005 Defender.

So far as these vs standard ones, I accept that the std ones are pretty good, but these are unquestionably bigger, which would to my mind make me think better.

As far as the disc diameter is concerned, I am not sure. The discs are not compatible obviously, but I will find out their diameter.

not necessarily.

bigger = more unsprung weight

what will happen to the pedal travel and feel with larger piston area?

Fair point. To be honest this was my first knee jerk reaction. The question is how much difference the weight is between the two.

I must admit, I was originally planning to go the Comp B4 route. I had considered the thought of continuing to use my current calipers, but they are old, and it seems like a good opportunity to update them.

I may continue down the original route.

Its the Gypsy in me! I cant throw anything out!!!

Of course there is the hassle factor - whether they will take a big enough disc - getting the adaptor brackets made up etc etc.

Mind you - where in nuts name would you get performance pads to fit a landrover caliper size!!!!! LOL

i doubt that you'd need performance pads. i used to use std pads on my std calipers with 330mm discs and they were superb.

if you think that you do though, maybe try some of the LR tuners like Overfinch etc
