i wouldnt have thought so, the silver top zetecs are not that strong so it may well end up blowin up on you!!!!

pannel an zorst would be a good place to start, make it go a bit better an sound it/feel it. maybe chip it.

well free-er flow zorst is noticable (dont need manifold or decat, just like a cat back) an also a K&N pannel filter with maybe a larger intake into the air box. dont know what the standard ones are like but on the focus you can upgrade to a focus st170 intake pipe.

a chip is noticable on a standard car also but works even better with the above mods. i suggest bluefin, got one of the best reputaions if not THE best.

chip probably a good answer there then, only heard good things about bluefin from superchips. increased power, smoothed out power an torque curves, better economy, better driveability.

could fit nos but i dont rate the silvertop very highly an bluefin is cheaper.

or, you could uprate the internals an fit a turbo, lol.

i think boost s the way she would like to go but i'd rarther spend the cash on the cossie unless someone has come up with a cheap way of turboing the car

fact is there is now 'cheap' way about it unless you take shortcuts in which case ou may aswell be throwing your money and car away for good. need uprated internals (if you want it to be reliable an last any length of time) and a remappable ECU along with turbo, intake an exhaust manifolds.

takes some money to do it right especially if your not able to do the bolting togetha bit.

i wouldnt think youd have a problem with around a 35 shot? silvertops seem to take alot of abuse

yeah they take a lot of abuse but then blow up!!!

black tops can withstand abuse as they are much stronger so you could always do a turbo build on a blacktop an drop that in instead.

or buy a faster car

or fuck her an spend it on the cossie

I've Recently driven a ford focus 1.6 Identical to mine but the difference being It had a Panel filter and Bluefin. It felt quicker, Not much quicker but it was smoother. Then we had a drag race and I was pulling away from him and he was in my standard 1.6. So If I was you I would Bluefin it and Panel Filter it. You will gain a little bit of power but It's more for Drive ability. Is what I will be doing Next month.

i drive my mum's 1.8 focus an have put a pannel in that (without her knowing an throttle response is better. i can get consistant 9.5 secs 0-60 times an the rest of the car is standard an she's 200 miles short of the magic 100k.

stills goes like new an the engine just revs very happily.

wish i could convince her to get bluefin an alloys with zorst.

phil_focus She wouldn't know if you Bluefined it. The sound of the exhaust could be a problem though.

she prop wouldnt, bloody dawdles all the time. very rare that she puts her foot down but it does happen an i cant afford the 300 quid for it lol

love my parents to bits. helpin me with costs at uni an i dont pay insurance an only petrol now an again. bit spoilt but want my own in summer.

anyway, back on topic. not much point in doin much to the silvertop, just let it breath a little easier an chip it.

in my car club, which all engines nearlly are silvertops you dont hear of many blowing, its usually the box that goes
Someone i know had a 1.8 on throttle bodies, im sure the only thing changed bottom end was for ARP's as the rev limit was raised. That took alot of abuse and never blew- although the power increase would be smoother on bodies compared to nitrous (unless it was on a controller).

thats just from my experiece from them

i'm sure their prob not too bad but have heard some bad stories.

my mate had a 1.6 escort. bought it with a revving problem. if you floord the throttle it would rev to about 4000 rpm an then stop, you had to lift off a bit to get it to rev higher.

he fitted an induction kit an back box an disconected the maf an it ran better. ended up reconecting the maf i think. anyway, reversed the back box into a curb an kinked the pipe infront, strightened it an it never ran right. ended up gettin worse an worse till it wos pathetically undrivable so scrapped it.
