just out of interest was the phone an unwanted upgrade or contract phone? if it was you could always report the phone as lost or stolen so if matey who bought it has done a runner the phone will be useless i know you can register the phone as lost on bumblebee.co.uk and they will give you a log number which is a lot easier than trying to get one from the police then contact the phone network and say youve lost it

i was on the understanding
PAYPAL
IF THE WINING BIDDER HAS TO SIGN FOR IT
YOU COULD GO FOR ROYAL MAIL SIGNATURE PERSON AND DO A SMALL CLAIMS
EBAY SAY YOU HAVE A BID CANCELLED
BUT DIDNT NOTIFY YOU !!
SO MUST BE SOMETHING CAN BE DONE

royal mail contract was to deliver to that person and sign for it maybe you have some case and also blocked the phone ime

Right, I am really not going to take this financial hit. SOMEONE is going to pay for it.

I am suspicious of Paypal's involvement in it. It just seems odd regarding the whole bid cancellation thing and how someone was able to have a Paypal account with no address on it, so I am going to call them in a minute. I also want them to PROVE that there was a fraud claim lodged by the rightful owner of the account involved. If it is genuine, then I blame them for protecting only one party here, when there has clearly been 2 parties which are the victim. I emailed the guy whose Paypal account it was and he hasn't answered, so I wonder if he even knows about this.

Also, my Bank Account has been changed as of today, so once I close the Credit Card that is linked to the account, Paypal can go fuck themselves for their £215, or at least they can fight me for it.

I paid for Royal Mail's top service, Special Delivery, and cannot see that it's right that the postman can just delivery it anywhere, if there is no-one at the address specified, so I am pursuing them too. If they can tell me where it was delivered, then great, I can visit that address and if not, then why not? There is a hint that a compensation claim may be possible.

I am certainly going to report it stolen with the provider, I'm sure they must be able to IMEI block it so that it can't be used.

My first piece of advice the day it happened and it still stands..clear that account out.

42% of all internet fraud in 2005 was Auction based and this is expected to increase once the 2006 statistics have been released... Considering ebay is the largest auction site it must mean that the vast majority of these statistics comes from there.

The account is clear (well, it is £200 odd negative at the moment!!).

Then bank account is now closed and today the credit-card linked to it will be closed too. So up-yours Paypal.

My sister tell's me that following an issue with Paypal that she had around 18 months ago, her account has been over £100 negative ever since and although she can't use the account, obviously, they have never chased her for it!! FPMSL.

Well, what I have learnt from this is to check a few main details.

1. That the address on Ebay is legit and has a contact phone number.
2. That there is an address on Paypal that matches the Ebay address and that the email addresses match.
3. That the 'Seller Protection' category on Paypal shows as 'Eligable', not 'Ineligable'.

I failed to spot these things, but won't fall for it again.

You will be able to make an insurance claim with the Royal Mail as it has to be delivered to the correct address and signed by the person its addressed to. Call customers services and they will open a case and then you fill out a claim form and there you go!! (May need a receipt for the phone! or just get a receipt for anything for the roughly the correct weight upto the maximum claim amount and makes some cash )

Aaah, yes, I totally agree, however, if, as I suspect this parcel WASN'T delivered to 62 Canning Road, then they are liable IMO. It's a 2-sided coin. If it was delivered there, then someone must live there, then it's worth me driving down. If it's empty, then why did they deliver it somewhere else??

As you say if it WASN'T delivered to the address on the parcel then it's down to royalmail to give you your money back if it's sent by special delivery it HAS TO go to that address if no one is there to sign for it then it has to go back to the sorting office and be collected or the person has to phone up and arrange to have it re-delivered to that address they are NOT allowed to have it delivered ANYWHERE but that address.

What on earth do you mean?? Of course you can!!

I have just closed 2 or 3 of the cards that I have used for Balance Transferring and had the confirmation that this has been done.

In any case, I can certainly advise them of the problems I am having and not to authorise any payments to Paypal.

unfortunely closed the credit card won't waiver the debt, if paypal charge the credit card the card company will still bill you the amount this well documented...

as secs mentioned Royal Mails involvement is done, the delivery guy won't admit he delivered it to a different address....

if you drive down there you will probably find a bunch of somalians living there and they'll deny all knowledge or kick the crap out of you..

like i said in my other post... this sort of thing happens all the time with ebay

my advice is put it down to experience

I reckon they would - as they are bound to find the person is wanted, has previous or uncover other more serious crimes...
