Default Smoking while driving

Does anyone else think that smoking while driving is actually worse than being on the phone.

well to be fair then isnt eating when driving dangerous

though also on that matter i was driving on the M25 the other day late at night and i had something in my nose,,,, i was happy picking away at my nose then i realised ive got 1 hand on the wheel doing 135 with the other finger up my nose

so i dont think talking on a mobile is that bad tbh,,,, infact its just as bad as drinking a SOFT drink when driving and we ALL do that,,,,

next you will be asking if its wrong to take charlie then drive

Never loose any hands, you can smoke and drive quite easily. I'm far more distracted when someone is yapping in my ear or when I'm changing a track on the stereo tbh. Are you a smoker?

Well not sure if it should be banned but im sure people are not in FULL control of the car whilst smoking.

What REALLY pisses me off though is when people throw their tab end out the window and it hits your car!!!!!

Seriously though, i assume throwing the tab ends out the window is illegal. I see it numerous times a day on the motorway especially. Its not just the fact of them littering that gets to me, its the cheek of the people that do it without any thought of whose behind them!!!! Id overtake them and throw whatever i could find out of the window at them if my van had more 70bhp!

You cant, so strictly speaking it could be seen as driving without due care. Same with eating and drinking really.

having nearly been knocked over by a dozy bint when she dropped her lighted fag in her lap, i would say ban it while driving.

as said, if you drop food/drink, it might shock you/make a mess, but it ain't on fire!

Taken from the uk smoking ban site..........

Where will you be able to smoke?
You'll still be allowed to light up outdoors, in the home or places considered to be 'homes', such as prisons, care homes and hotels.

Smoking could still be banned at certain outdoor locations that are 'substantially enclosed', such as football grounds and railway platforms. No decision has yet been made on smoking inside cars carrying passengers.

What will happen if I'm caught fag-in-hand?
If you're caught smoking in a banned area you could be fined Ł50.

Theres still hope yet!!! Doesnt mention anything about when on your own in the car though.

I can see this smoking ban thing causing so many problems though.

How do you use your stereo? Do you have both hands on the wheel at everytime? Are you a smoker, do you realise how instinctive it is and how little it distracts you? Never have I set a car alight or dropped a fag in the car, I have however ran someone over whilst operating the stereo, although I wasn't found at fault as they were so drunk they decided to play chicken with oncoming traffic.

You're a saint and to be commended, however the overwhelming VAST majority arent, so maybe we should leave it at that and concentrate on laws that would benefit everyone and let the police catch proper criminals, they have afteralll, enough shitty laws to deal with

You missed my first point though i was trying to point out that driving whilst on the phone is another money making scam cause all 3 things are equally bad behind the wheel however the government have clamped down hard on the easiest to make money out of HOWEVER i do feel a slight rage when i see a mother daughter combo in a car smoking away with 3 young kids in the car

Smoking is fucking disgusting end of imo

does seem strangely bizarre that thinking about taking the phone in the car will get you in jail, but driving with an item in one hand that is on fire seems ok...

having been a smoker in the past and experienced smoking whilst driving, i can think of no reason to ban it.

it does NOT follow the same logic as mobile phones, as the "evidence" that brought in the mobile phone ban is to do with your lack of concentration whlst having a conversation, not havng your hand off the wheel (which makes the mobile ban completely unjustifyable imho as youre allowing handsfree?)

there is the risk of IDIOTS who cant cope with smoking/driving, but frankly these are the people who cause a danger just being NEAR a car, let alone smoking in one. If you have the inteligence to string together a full sentance, you should be able to hold a cigarette without dropping it.

As for fag ends out windows, it IS an offence, and you can be stopped/fined for it. it's just very difficult to enforce

To be honest eating, drinking, smoking, shaving, applying makeup, chatting on the phone whilst driving is a risk. Anything you are doing takes your concentration away from doing the only thing your mind should be on. I don't think that there are any people in this world apart from my Mum that aren't guilty of doing one of the above whilst driving so I'm not saying that I'm a saint. I think that all of the above should be illegal but we're all guilty of doing it

The biggest problem with that as I see it, is getting the window to the right position to ensure the but doesnt fly back in
