Do you mean the E38 or the E32?
If you mean the E38, then the only chance you will have will be the box found in the 540i sport (six speed manual). Rare as rocking horse shit and priced to match
If you mean the E32, then you have to think the E34 5 series V8s. I dont know if they used a manual on those or not, but that is your starting point

I guess a better question would be to ask, did the bmw 1990 or so 4 litre v8 ever come with a manual box?

would still be getting over 40mpg aswell, and im sure the torque the thing chucked out would more than compensate for the lake of top end power compared to the V8. plus id imagine itd be a piece of piss to fit....

How common are they in manual?
And is it the same box as used in anything else more common?

I dont know much about the V8s used in the E32s, but I guess that they are variants of the M60 Engine? If so, then it will be the same as the E39 cars, as Alex says.
There are very few V8s of that vintage, most were either 6's and the odd V12 (I remember my 750 well!!!)
I am told that the Manual was an option on the very early E38s, but it was almost never chosen (given the type of car!) And even then, it may have only been available on the 728is
If you dont mind me asking. Why bother? The E32 740 is a bus (trust me, I have owned enough of the buggers E32 and E38!)
Drive it auto and be happy

e34 will be a 4.0 v8 and its called an M60
once you get to e39 era they are 4.4 and called a m62.
Hard is the word - they don't go wrong much so people tend not to break them for parts!

The M60 is notorious for the Nikasil issue though Chip, so make sure you arent taking on more than you realise.
If it is M60, then as Alex says, the later 6 speed manual box is the one you want. And no...... you cant have mine!

I wasnt planning on using the management TBH, was going to put in some spare aftermarket ive got laying about and a couple of sets of bike bodies.
Will have to get a tape measure into the bay of a hilux, dont suppose you have measurements for the width? (other directions shouldnt be a problem but would make it more of a project than i want if it doesnt fit between the struts)
