Default Santa Pod - Good 1/4 mile set up on Cosworth?

Sorry i know this is one of those sort of clueless questions

I was up at the Pod on Saturday with my mate in his Evo 7 who managed a 12.97 1/4 mile, Now I hopefully will be in a position to purchase a Cosworth August time and want something capable of keeping up with him at the Pod.

What sort of times will a stage 3 Cossie do? Both RWD and 4x4?

Its all about the grip.

Shame everyone just slams their car to the deck on 205 wide road tyres and spends 15k getting a 500bhp engine instead

Proper tyres, proper diff, dont fuck the suspension geometry by sitting it on the deck.

Mine does 13.1s @ 115mph.

2wd, ported head, greens, T34.55, RS500 intercooler. Standard ride height and 205/40/17s

It all depends on how Aggressive your launching and gearchanging are!

13's can be done rather easily with a nice stage 3 set-up

on 2wd the weakpoint is the rear diff.... And on 4x4 it's the gearbox...

nice set of wide tyres will help loads

Buy an Evo IMO.

Gary's should manage a 10-second quarter if we ever decide to take it. I would have thought that your mates car is practically standard, judging by the ET he got?

If it must be a Cossie, then what Steve says is right.

So a Nice set of Slicks, Heavy Duty Diff and sensible Suspension

Makes Sence though as The evo was spinning up all 4 wheels on 4k Launch.

Mega agression and 2wd just means more wheelspin

Has to be a cossie - Wanted one since i was little, Plus Evo's Still a bit out of my price range, Think 5-6k on a good cossie, or 10+ for an evo

Here is his slip -

I just wish i could get in the 12s

Im just a tart at launching

At least im faster over the line

60ft = 2.395sec
330ft = 6.052sec
1/8th = 8.829 @ 90.55mph
1/4 = 13.127 @ 115.59mph

well i'm gonna be slamming my car down the quarter this year, and if i don't get into the 12's i'm gonna burn it!!!!

i have an ok diff, tyres are grippy and rear sits reasonably high...it's about as good as it can be without fitting an adjustable rear beam i reckon. just need to get used to launching on my clutch and finding the best point in the rev range to limit wheelspin but keeping the power on tap.

terminals should be over 120 too,so just the launch to sort

As of the end of Feb any car running over 110MPH Terminal wont be allowed to run unless the driver has a Helmet on, there are signs up everywhere, looks like they might be having a bit of a clamp down.

His 60ft is only 1.9, i reckon launched to its best it could do a 1.6 even standard, so thats low 12s already.

Good luck

i did an 12,41 / 183km/h in my escos with a std 330kit(chip greens mongoose and k/n trumpet std i/c) boosting 1,5/1,8bar as best.
Times were about 12,4-12,5 everytime i used it on the strip.
Launch`ed it at 6500rpm everytime, and had an 60-fot at about 1,8-1,9sec
Only had an uprated pressureplate and std plate so it could slip.
Worked perfectly

The gearbox first let go after 60 launches, and this one was used

4by cossie's are quick on the 1/4. A stage 3 is easily in the 12's without a mental launch.

You might beat his terminal speed but i doubt you will beat his 1/4 time.

My diff should help launch,my tyres are pretty good in the dry,......

i'm gonna give it some man launch anyway

Read the thread

Since fitted 400s but not been back to the pod.

I know what yours is running, its just getting it all together off the line.

Mr. Magoo

look at it this way then, if YOU were to change something to improve your times, what would you do?

fit wider tyres?
fit quaiffe or similar diff?
add 100bhp?

how much do you think you'd shave off your times if you did the above?

all i'm saying is i think it's possible, IF i can launch it properly, which i'll try to perfect throughout the year

Default 1/4 mile set up

you can have to much grip on the start line believe it or not, U need some wheel spin to get very big turbos to spin up or it will just bog down, Also the car has to squat down on the rear and not bounce. I used to run a 4x4 sapphire with 340 bhp t3,greens,rs500 intercooler koni suspension with a quaife front diff on toyos and ran steady late 12s, But with the new track car with 410bhp t34 63ex grays now on track set up suspension with dunlop track day tyres geting 12.5 to 12.6 to 115mph need to find a set that is softer and go back to road tyres I think.

4x4 cosworths rule on the strip if u can get a good launch

So Basically Your better off with decent Tyres, transmission and Suspension and Moderate power, than 500bhp the finest set of Khumo Tyres and some Ripspeed lowering springs

Thats the hardest part lol, i have tried soooo many times

More power is not always better.

Traction is the main key to a good time.

One of Mike Rs 6 deg beams would help a lot.

Well your 60ft and 330ft times are still good

Your 1/8th time is faster than mine as well, you just seemed to lose it at the top end.
