we sell alloys and tyres where i work
we are always told by tyre manufacturers if in doubt always refer to the manufacturers handbook !!!
Its more the tyre press for the weight of the car etc rather than the kind or size of tyres you have on
if you know what i mean
hope this helps

This is what has happened to my osf tyre. It had 30psi in it and the suspension and tracking is fine. All other tyres are fine with no wear like this.
Toyo say it has been under-inflated!

The tyre was sent back to technical director at toyo, this was at his request.
It was a guy called alan meaker. I werent in a position to argue his job with him but im pretty sure that 30psi is correct and not 37 front and 40 rear like he says. He said he worked this out from the load of the car and the previous standard tyre size load!
I think the tyre was faulty and that hes bullshit me so he doesnt have to replace it!

they have to send them to an unbiased company who do warrantys for toyo and yokohama etc.
they aint allowd to do warrenty claims on their own tyres and therefore you should get a letter from the 3rd party

THIS EMAIL IS WHAT CAME TO ME FROM TOYO THIS AM!!
Without Prejudice.
Dave,
I had the tyre re examined by one of our Japanese Technicians who is based at our Technical Centre in Japan.
He has confirmed my original findings that the tyre has been operated in underinflated condition resulting in the failure in the casing.
That said what we are prepared to do as a gesture of goodwill is to supply one 205/40ZR17 T1S free of charge, this offer does not constitute any admission of liability.
From our conversations you stated that the tyre pressures you were using were 30 psi all round, which is too low.
From the information I have your car was original fitted with 205/50R15 86V using tyre pressures of 30psi front and 33 psi rear. Based on this information the tyre pressures I would recommend for the 205/40ZR17 84W RF are
Front: 37 psi
Rear: 42 psi
If you are happy to except our offer please let me know where you would like the tyre sent.
Best Regards
Alan.

20K+ Super Poster.
FYI, the visible wear on that tyre was CAUSED by the blowout, it wouldnt have looked like that before.
when most people see blown out tyres theyre like "OMG, i cant beleive the tyre was like that!" normally.. it wasn't running tyres flat kills them VERY quickly

The ONLY reason they would send it to JAPAN, is if they thought they might have a design error, which could prove potentially costly to thousands of people.
Much cheaper for them to give you a new tyre, than any adverse publicity!!
tabetha
sending it to japan in my opinion is complete bollocks.

tyre
that sort of wear isnt caused by incorrect pressure if it was pressure the wear would be on both sides of the tyre and wouldnt expose the steel cords in that way if it was under inflated. and would wear the centre if it was over inflated.by the looks of the pics it looks like the moulding that is used to bont the steel cords in place has broke down and could only be caused by either manufacture fault or very very bad camber on the wheels causing the tyre casing to heat up so badly that it breaks the internal bond on the tyre .
and the manufacturer wouldnt give you a tyre if they said it was down to pressures being incorrect the only way they would give you one is if they found a fault. and didnt want to tell you what the fault was
29psi front 28psi rear hope this is helpful

Ok, say judging by the replies i can say that toyo are talking shite!
Tyre pressures that toyo are saying to use are way too high.
When i get my new tyre i will put the email address up of the guy who has dealt with the issue and you can all tell him that he doesnt know how to do his job!!!!!

37 is too high,,,,, think about what the presure would be at 140mph if held out at time
also looks like camber issue to me rather that too low presure and maybe a bend rear arm
either that or learn to drift the car BOTH sides rather than just when going right on junctions

that looks like that tyre has been driven on flat. for it to wear like that on a correctly inflated tyre, it'd well... it just wouldnt happen
perhaps your tyre was underinflated? perhaps you got a puncture on it's last journey? perhaps someone let the air out of your tyres? who knows... but it deffo looks like it's been underinflated.
and yes youre right, 30psi isnt underinflated
