Default Weight saving -

Right, apart from me loosing weight, how can I save more weight in my car??

All the interior is out, bar the dash and front door cards, and two 6kg seats.

But where do I go now to save some more weight?

Erm I'm guess it's around 910kgs now, (an equiviliant car with the same bits stripped etc comes in at 910kgs)..

Just don't understand how the Pug 106 boys get their cars under 850kgs, it's not as if the cars are much difference in size?

i suspect it's the metal used on the shell is lighter.
you can get replacement panels fairly easy,i'd do bootlid, bonnet, doors and fit perspex windows....that should save a big big chunk

Pugs are alot lighter standard. Crash in a 106 and then have the same crash in your zetec s. you'll be glad you're in the zetec s. As for weight saving lose your bloody 17's! Rotating weight of those is huge compared to a lightweight set of 15's. if you've got the car caged drill holes out of all the inside panels etc to get rid of as much metal as you can. As said, perspex windows. Lose the electric windows. Rear wiper etc. Fibreglass boot, doors, bonnet etc.

See updates in my project post.

As for fibreglass panels, I can't find anywhere that does them for a Mk5 Fiesta........ The mk5 is so untouched it's untrue!

Foglights can't be that heavy can they? Saying that they're going to make way for ducts for the brakes...

Rear wiper motor!

Anything that you don't need bin it. It all adds. up. Drill holes in your door handles anywhere that you can get rid of excess material do it,

Contact djm motorsport. they'll be able to make you carbon fibre bonnets boots etc. Probably work in fibreglass as well.

Its nice to suggest things - would hate to do it to my own car

As above - get wide core cutting drill bit and go mad lol. Do you get smaller alternators with enough output - must be a bit of weight in them. Alloy brake calipers are usually light from what i have seen - discs with alloy rotors but not too big - the list is endless Are coilovers lighter than a standard setup?

As rich said - it'll lighten your wallet too

Fucking everything on this car ligthens my wallet, don't worry!

With regards to perspex windows, the car is still an every dayer too, so I'd end up with a steemed up rear window and none winding fronts?

Underseal

remove redundant brackets

ALL sound deadening material.

There's a few more KGs!

Then you could get some lighter brakes and suspension - in addition to all the stuff above!

No sound deadening in at all Alex, apart from the roof, but I didn't want to risk boiling the paint with the blow torch to get it off!

Not really. Drilling it like that doesnt make that much difference to the rigidity of the metal.

He is using modified stub axles for the rear shock carriers and so much of the stress has been taken off the holed out sections, which used to carry the rear shocks.

smaller alloy rad , electric water pump, ally flywheel, 140mm carbon clutch, plastic fuel cell, each one will only save a small amount of weight but when you add it all together u would be surprised,

My FRST is well stripped back. I stripped the shell and removed all the underseal, all the sound-deadening from inside, replaced the roof skin for a non-sunroof version, perspex windows with sliders, fibreglass tailgate, kevlar bonnet, front bumper gutted so its just a skin, heater & motor removed, electric window motors & central locking gone, fuel tank replaced with fuel cell, steering lock, igntion barrel etc gone, all unecessary wiring removed, set of magnesium-alloy OZ's, oh yeah and I've lost nearly 2 stone

all depends how much you wanna spend, and how far you are prepared to hack up the shell lol

carbon bonnet, doors and boot, bumpers etc - will all prolly be one offs so like Ł5k lol

remove all sound deadening from the car

remeove the ABS, sterio, heated rear screen, rear wiper and associated wiring - thats good for about 25kgs alone

polycarb windows, im only doing the rear screen and rear quarters on mine to retain the glass fronts

cut out all non strngthening metal from the shell, around rear quarters etc

ditch the power steering and pumps, aircon, dash, door cards

do what phils mate has done and cut holes in everything lol

fit smaller wheels

get aftermarket brakes, not only will this give you better stopping power, but you will save about 15/20kg over the std cast stuff

coilovers

scrape off the underseal and paint with anti rust paint

fit a smaller alloy fuel cell

ditch the spare wheel

have a big shit

Without sounding nasty mate, I would love to see the difference in perfomance with Youngmatt in it, Do this and it might motivate you to loose weight. Instead of loosing more weight how about gaining perfomance?
