FAO: the doormen
any of you chaps get addicted to the adrenaline rush or what?!
worked in a club in weston on saturday, was in a small back room with about 150 people, the radio i had could recieve but not send. it kicked off with two lads, obviously i had to way of calling it, they were rolling round on the floor, i dived in and ripped em appart, wrestled one out the fire exit then went back for the other. it was over in about 40seconds, but fuck me i was buzzing for about 15 minutes!!! ive only worked in the town centre twice now, ive always worked in quieter places before, ive seen plenty of 'action' in these two nights but this was the first time ive had to go into a situation on my own with NO backup. the fucking buzz was unreal, i was gagging for it to kick off again all night after that!
its proper scary how addictive the rush is!!!! was a bit daft what i did really, they both had mates with em, wouldnt have taken anything for one of em to bottle/glass/kick me in the head while i was on the floor with em and i couldve been fucked!

Stu,
If you enjoy it to that extent, its time to get out before you hurt someone
or get hurt yourself.
I have upto 20 door staff in my club on a saturday night and if i thought
any of them enjoyed there job in that way, it would be the end of their job(s).
Hope you take what I say as friendly advice

It's called 'fresh leg's syndrome'!!
In other words - when you get a fresh door supervisor (just started) he or she think's it's a rush when it kicks off.
I've seen it myslef many a time in over 10 years of working & being head doorman of various large clubs.
I see it in our company too when i take on a new recruit who's just got their badge.
They ALL learn in time

There's certain clubs that need certain types of doormen in order to run properly but have now got jacket fillers trying to run it

RS500/364,
I see what you are saying. I am not a doorman so I suppose I cant
comprehend how their minds work in those situations.
You are brave fookers as I couldnt do the job even if I had muscles

it was just the pure and simple fact it was probably THE biggest adrenaline rush ive ever had. ive never been like that when i get into bother with people myself, or when it kicks off and theres 1/2 a dozen of us dealing with 3 or 4 lads. i dunno what it was but after that i was waiting for it to go off again.
aj youre probably bang on, ive never had to deal with a situation like that on my own before, and after i sorted it out i probably subconciously felt invincible (although im not that naive, i know im not).
probably came across like i was saying wanted to go round roughing people up all night in my first post but wasnt meant like that!

A tip for you (the police use it too)...
If it's proper kicking off, let the people involved go for it with each other for about 10 seconds before jumping in to break it up as their usually out of breath by then hence making it slightly easier to deal with

yeah lol ive been told to do that before. my old boss used to say if it ever goes off badly, just let em get on with it for as long as you can, let em batter each other first then just pick up the pieces he was an ex copper!

There can be large amounts of adrenaline involved for sure.... I've been working doors for a good few years and I can still feel the rush if certain things happen.
Another but of advice though is NEVER EVER go into a situation witout back-up [even if its just the DJ/Bar-staff/door-staff at the other side of the room that see you going in] unless you are 110% SURE you can deal with it!! I did this once and I won't be doing it again in a hurry!!
