Jaguar X Type, any good???!
Getting pished off now not being able to find a car to replace me 200sx ive just sold. Was trying to find a tidy mk4 Golf 1.8t gti but not sure if there is such a thing so looking at the other end of the scale for big bus type motors. Looked at a couple of 5 series bimmers at around the 5k mark but nothing out there really then looked at these...: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JAGUAR-X-TYPE-...QQcmdZViewItem
Obviously they are based on a Mondeo (engine/chassis etc) but it looks a lot of car for the money, plus they are only a few years old!
Anyone had any experiences with these? Manual or Auto?? They all seem really well specced as well!!! Bit old mannish / pipe / slippers but bet they are lovely to drive! (not fussed about performance etc!)

Exacly my thoughts as well Phil. Me mates are saying just buy a Mondeo as they are the same which I can see there point, BUT the Jags look sooo much better, plus the interiors arent exactly the same as an old Mondy!!!!
Seem so cheap as well for what you get!

What a ridiculous statement!!!!
adjective
stupid or unreasonable and deserving to be laughed at:
They are appalling in my opinion - but I have only had the displeasure of driving 3 different derivatives!
You of course are welcome to defend them!
A mondeo is a MUCH better car!

I only just noticed some of them are AWD!? Why didn't they make 4wd mondeos?
They look nice but looking at the dashboard it doesn't really look that posh when you think Jaguar.. Just my opinion though!
You wanna get a passat mate A lot of car for the money!

Ive driven quite a few, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, diesels in SE's and Sports.
I personally think they drive really nice and are sooo comfortable. The 3.0 are pretty quick too and i believe there about 220 bhp. For around Ł5k you get so much for your money.
Ok the 2.0's are pretty gutless but thats why they made the reasonable 2.5 and the even better 3.0.
And for anyone to think its just a mondeo is a bit neive in my opinion. Totally different car in so many ways, and much much better.
I think the one in the link will go for a bit more than Ł5k though personally, as its a fully specced up 3.0 sport which usually command top money. Ive seen a few with the blood red leather and they look so

We have one in the family. Not a bad car at all, although the family member does get ribbed regading its mondy heritage lol!
Cant believe how much they're worth now was 30k+ when new.

Seems strange to get mixed views over it!!! ok im not expected it to be a rocket ship or track car but would've thought it cant be that bad!!!!
s1rst - i think ill have a looky for the 2.5 v6 sport ones, not sure what the fuel consumption will be like. What are the manuals g.box ones like or is it worth getting an auto??

I would prefer a manual to be honest as I dont think the missus will like driving an auto (she's never tried one and wont want to try one!!!!!). Would've thought the manuals would be cheaper to buy as well but probably harder to sell wouldnt they?!

Not sure on how values differ, but just spotted this one. Up on miles but seems cheap enough though. And it has the red leather too.

The brakes are like wood and going round corners is an interetsing experience!
Why isn't there a mondeo 4x4... now theres a good! I posted along time ago about why that was but Rainbum went off on one so I won't mention is again.

I never found the brakes to be poor or found the handling poor, although to be fair i never used to drive them that fast to notice i suppose. Not really that type of car to be pushed to its limits in my opinion.

I have never driven an X-type but my mate has a 3.0 Sport and he said it handles better than his Bentley Flying Spur, MG ZT190 and his merc C class. Another friend of mine also set that in the wet nothing is getting away from you unless it's got silly power.
