Default snow warning look out

if this is correct we could end up with some real problems

Forecasters have issued a severe weather warning with some of the heaviest snowfalls in several years being predicted .

Up to 15cm of snow - around six inches - could fall in South and Mid Wales on Wednesday night and Thursday morning with up to five centimetres - around two inches - predicted for London and southern England on Thursday.

Southern England could see snowfalls of up to 10cm, or nearly four inches, in areas of high ground.

Paul Knightley, forecaster for MeteoGroup UK, the weather division of the Press Association, said cold air from the north mixing with an "active'' mild weather system from the Atlantic would bring the snowfalls.

There have already been small snowfalls in the South West and parts of eastern England will see some snow showers.

"Overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning are going to see quite a significant band of sleet and snow into south west England and South Wales and eventually by morning across much of Wales into the Midlands and into the London area and southern England as well as the South East,'' he said.

"The snow will be potentially disruptive in London because it is predicted for rush hour and is going to cause some significant disruption, I think.

The Met Office issued an early warning of severe weather.

A statement said: "The Met Office is expecting a period of heavy snow to develop across south west England and much of Wales during Wednesday night and this is expected to extend across the Midlands, London, the South East of England and East Anglia during Thursday morning.

"There is also a risk that the snow will extend into parts of northern England for a time before dying away from all areas during Thursday afternoon.''

The statement added that the snow would cause "disruption to travel networks''.

From the Met for me:

Torfaen
Heavy Snow 2300 Wed 7 1500 Thu 8
This is the first warning of disruption due to Heavy Snow. The Met Office is expecting a period of heavy snow to develop across Southwest England and much of Wales during Wednesday night and this is expected to extend across the Midlands, London, the Southeast of England and East Anglia during Thursday morning. There is also a risk that the snow will extend into parts of northern England for a time before dying away from all areas during Thursday afternoon. Accumulations of 2-5cm are expected quite widely inland, with 10-15cm possible for parts of the Midlands and Wales. Rain is more likely close to southern coasts where less cold air is expected. The period of snow could cause disruption to travel networks, especially across high level routes and the fact that timing of this event will coincide with the morning rush-hour. This warning will be updated by 1100 tomorrow, Wednesday 7th February 2007

This happens every year.

Bit of a forcast of snow and the media turn it into the next fucking ice age.

I bet theres house wives down at their local TESCO's fighting over bread and milk right now.

They say heavy snow on the news and then go on to mention 5cm deep in places

On snowboarding trips i've had the best part of a metre in a few hours before, and it still doesn't cause any problems, yet here everything goes tits up the sight of a small frost

Fez

It is only -5 here at the moment, but I have been to Lapland when it is -27 and the cold doesn't feel the same, I think it is becuase it is less humid there.

In the Alps at -10 degrees I can walk to the shops in a T-Shirt, in England at -1 my fingers go blue the second I step outside

Ah, there won't be anywhere near the disruption they say, maybe a light sprinking overnight which will be gone by midday.

Usual media hype resulting in nothing.

And? There;s talk of the possibility of a few cm's of snow and everyone begins to panic, and when there IS a few cm's of snow the country comes to a standstill!!! It's fucking pathetic! Look at the people in Northern Canada - several FEET of snow for most of the year and they plod along with their daily lives like there's no difference.....

Us Brits are pretty rubbish when you tihnk about it
