Why not- 25psi and greys = 400+ bhp.

Dont need a dyno to say that

Martin thats exactly what one of the mag writers said last time a post like this was put up..

You turn up with your car and say

" its got 500bhp mate- T34 25psi and greys"

They have to write it- its not for them to say if thats the right or wrong.. they can make assumptions, they can sniger etc.. but they cant say

"oi mate- you are talkin utter wobble"

I like seeing a shiny car, dont get me wrong but 1 is enough to last me all day.

Stand me by a track and I will stand there all day gawping at stuff, comparing things, trying diferent ideas etc.

interesting point, big bhp figures sells mags, but then tidy cars does as well so I guess its a balance. We all want to read about cars we can aspire to and a lot of cars are overstated with regards power figures in the mags but rarely with regards effort so fair play I say

Very few of the mags go into what actually makes a car fast, TORQUE not blingy crap, I hate bling as I am an old git(41) and agree with you.
A car cannot be properly done without rollers or live map IMO, but a certain spec will produce certain results all else being right, but I know what you are saying.
I am more into the normal look, ie sleeper with huge power then you can give the saxo boys a surprise even better or M3 EVO etc.
I t amazes me when I see RR printouts in mags where they plot BHP/TORQUE at same rpm and there is no 5252 crossover, a idiot knows it's crap, but they still print it.

They could time the cars against the clock , the mag can then give the car a GENUINE or BULLSHIT rating. It wont happen cos bullshit sells mags & in the world of Cossies bullshit abounds.

Thing is, who gives a toss, its worse when they have big BHP/Dyno figures and then the performance doesnt match up by a long long way when timed or whatnot.

i think the problem with the RS cars is that you can only go as far as a set of wheels and a pair of morrettes to make any physical changes
the rest is under bonnet bling or stripping out the interiors so you have a bit of a catch 22 situation here

my old bus looks like a bus and carrys bus loads of people, and under the bonnet is a bit poo too when it had the 12tt engine in it, but that was all go and no show but i was happy with that and it was an everyday car and i cleaned it twice myself

compare that to, say, martins car, mikes car, rods car, they look nice and they go nice, but they stand out in that respect and almost say "come and have a go if you think your hard enough"

to be honest, there are ony so many 20 year old cars that are going to be in the mags so they look for the ones that will be best to be shown, no point in having a car just returning from a trek in the forset with bits of branch, twig and rabbit stuck in it's grille, no matter what you have under the bonet no one is going to buy a mag with a shonky motor on the cover (although if you look back and see some of the horrors that graced mag covers in the 80's and 90's, you might still get away with it )

Jake has been spoilt by the ol' T4

IMO it would be good for all feature cars to be timed, but then your limited to shooting at just one location,to keep things equal......also for a huge percentage of the mag buying public, power figures aren't what they are looking at.

i say worry about summat else

on another note i think somebody should organise a PassionFord thrash, just to gauge what the cars on here can really do

There are lots of people with lots of power that produce shit times, which make you wonder how powerful their car is or how shit they are at driving

Bit of both.

Added to that is the laughably poo tyres, diffs, and suspension geometry most RSTs and Cossies have.

Bling doesn't do it for me - I don't mind a bit of shiny stuff but I'd rather see a clean standardish looking engine bay.

i knew all them scandanavian cars were only running 200bhp!

in all honesty it depends on the quailty of the engine and the mods added, just the right mods can produce a cracking power figure rather than these it has a list as long as your engines.

tbh mine hasnt been on the rollers, and cant cos its toolow for the ones round here and only on 16"s i tried once and the roller touched my floor.but in my defence i know mine is running at a good 350ish because my mates 2wd had just been built by harvey gibbs to 350 horse and when my mate put his on the rollers a couple of months later it pulled 348bhp and i stay dead level with him on the road.

Its not totally true, torque helps on the road but ultimately a high bhp figure talks the talk. F1 cars are quick

Also graphs only cross at 5250 IF they use the same scales for the axis, which lots dont as it makes it neater and easier to read if they adjust one of the scales. I buy FF and PF and dont recall an incorrect graph in the last few years. An example would be nice

Blimey each to their own mate, I can think of at least 2 big power cars that look superb under the bonnet-ESCYSCOTT and Dunccoss, both over 400 bhp Harvey bulit engines I believe, and they look great under the bonnet, whats the issue here, is it that you dont have a shiny engine?
I have a clean and shiny engine bay and have had it on the rollers at the end of last year, on greens it was 325bhp and 356lb ft
most stage 3's do make around this power whether they are dirty or clean, people have ideas and opinions on what looks good, so why talk down chromed and well presented engines?

heres mine-warning this may annoy you

And on the rollers

Or did I miss the point of this post
