Default Any C20LET boffins in tonight?

A mate of mine has a 94 cav running a c20let on an F20 gearbox.
Tuned to 'phase 0' (wtf?) and its not running properly.
Between 3 and 4k theres nothing, revs dont rise or anything, thats with it floored! Seems really hesitant, like there's not enought fuel?
It was doing the same thing a while ago and a fuel pump from a
V6 vectra seemed to cure it, but its happening again. The fuel pump has been checked (borrowed the pump off his dads v6 vectra), injectors swapped, new plugs correctly gapped, Anyone got any ideas??

I've told him to bin it and buy a cossie but he wont have it...............

Sounds like an engine managment fault and its rev limiting.

Get a code reader on it before you start wasting money....

As SECS says, sound very limp mode ish but i cant remmeber every having a LET go into limp, i think it maye only the eco-wrecks that do that....unless it is a eco turbo ofcourse. If so read the falut codes. cam sensors are common

sort two pins and read the code out yourself would have the same effect IIRC!

Good old flash codes

I've told him to phone Stu and bother him with it, i'm getting a bit cheesed off with it now tbh. Its gone on for well over a year now and Regal ( who fitted the engine) dont want to know
Its also been into 4 (and I use the term loosely) specialist garages and I dont think any of them have checked the management or any of the sensors. Bloody Vauxhalls. Glad I've got a nice reliable Ford!

regal?? i bet the ecu light aint wired up i got a corsa off a guy few years back with reciept from them for ŁŁŁŁŁ and the wiring for the let engine was terrible, its a very easy conversion too but they did a crap job, it will be something simple mate they usually run very well .
Yeh they do have limp home mode, can unplug most sensors and they will still run.
check to make sure ecu light is coming on when ignition is switched on, it may not be wired up right.

try www.vauxsport.com.

Limp home mode normaly just issues a soft cut limiter at 4500rpm, so its not that. Could be an unmetered air leak.

Phase 0 doesnt exist afaik, ph1 is more boost and hardly worth bothering with, ph2 is more fuel pressure, more boost and an fmic.

If the EML is wored correctly you can read the codes thru that by shorting 2 pins, look for the guide to codes on topbuzz.

Regal

Check the AFM connector, that caused mine to misfire on boost as it had a loose wire

Check for an air leak. Mine used to be heasitant just before really coming on boost.

Also check the fuel pressure. For a test put a pair of mole grips on the fuel return and have a quick drive.

Does the engine management light come on when the ignition is on before startup?

I would try a set of ford 071 rs turbo plugs gapped to .6mm and I would check the pipework and the seals on the fuel lines to make sure its not drawing in air anywhere.

It will be one or the other (ie weak spark or not enough fuel)

If its not enough fuel, it will melt pretty quickly.

I would be going straight back to regal though if I paid 4K for an engine conversion and they didnt check the car over properly to make sure everything else was up to the job!

Cant believe he paid that much though, thats FAR beyond what it could be done for you for if you go to the right people!
