Check that the slides and other moving parts are not tight/siezed.

What do both sides of the disc look like? Do they look likey have been overheated, are they crazed, or gone a funny colour?

Did you clean all the crap off the contact points what the pads sit on? If so then pass.. Fook knows!

Check and make sure the caliper is as clean as you can get it where the pads fit into and slide inside the caliper.

Any build up of rust or grime etc will cause the pad to stick and not slide back and fore as it should do, this will then make the brakes bind slightly causing the uneven pad wear you have described

Fitted a set of rear pads in my cousins vectra few month ago and had to do it outside in the rain so didnt spend to much time cleaning up inside the caliper and just put plenty of copper slip on the pads and whacked them in, came back about 6 weeks later with one side down to the metal

Spent a bit more time cleaning up inside the calipers this time and its noe spot on.

You can tell by the pads in the right of the pic that they have been binding as they have gone all scorched looking !

My pals has done 2 CV joints on the same side in 2 weeks
back brakes - innop
Front pass side caliper - bottom bolt missing (we wondered why the wheel locked up in reverse altho that's due to poor mechanic rather than the car itself
rear wishbone bushes, gone.
windows take about 10 attempts to go down
its a great car

OK I'll give you that - they must have as they still sell em!

The nastiness of the car had no bounds though. One friend ripped the rear view mirror off as he was so appauled by even being in a vectra. The car only paid him back by splitting the windscreen! ... Well I wasn't paying!

One good thing - it never used tyres - think the contact patch was 1mm square lol Well thats how it felt, I loved it just floated around like a flying saucer and no one was ever going to win in a lane fight Well especially after NeilS on here scraped "this way up" on the passanger door

No it wasnt! When the engine fell out that the drunk at the scrappys put in for me, we put cossy headbolts in where the others loose ones had fallen out! Way way too good for that car even if they were used!

seems there is a bigger prob with the brakes after all
if i jab the brakes 5 or 6 times and then press the pedal (feels normal) to brake it doesnt hardly brake at all
using the brakes normally it brakes as normal
pedal isnt spongey
fluid is to max
could one of the seals in the master cylinder have gone?

the servo will only have a reserve of approx 3 - 4 actuation's, it will take approx 20 seconds to re charge the servo.

if it is a diesel, check the vac system is OK....

use a vac gauge on the vac pump , and also on the vac lines, with the engine at idle you should see an instant vac of - 25 psi.
if not this will effect the brake servo efficiency and may be a problem with the vac pump or hoses....

in both petrol and diesel engines check the vac pipe to the servo and the one way valve....

beast of luck, keep me posted.....
