What's the most reliable RS you've ever had?
Mine was my old '89 Escort turbo. Fantastic car, in my ownership it needed rear wheel bearings and that was it! Used every day for 3 yrs!
I'd love to know where it is now. Mercury grey G53 VPG, bought in Guildford bout 6-7 years ago.

Professional Waffler
Not saying.
I said our hoover was great and that then broke. I said my Panasonic telly was great and that evening it packed up. I've learnt my lesson and will now keep my gob shut

I'm Finding My Feet Here Now
My S1 was very reliable. Just usual maintenance and servicing. But, it had had a load of engine work just before I bought it and was looked after from an early age.
I think that reliability is all about how the car has been looked after.
My recent S1 was great, but my first RST bought way back in 1998 was a complete nightmare, i bought it because it was cheap and TBH you get what you pay for. A trip to the garage about once a month... at least

No such thing....lol
I had an RS2000 for a while and that seemed ok, anything turbo, forget it.
The need for MORE power always exceeds reliability thoughts....

I've only ever owned one genuine RS..... a rotten wide-arched ex-track S1.
It just managed a 5 mile trip from where I bought it to my house whilst it was pissing petrol.......... then I stripped it

My old Fiesta turbo was pretty reliable, can't think of anything that went wrong during ownership.. even when it was ZT.. drove to all the events and back..
Oh no I just thought I once ripped an Engine mount in half but even then it drove home ok
EDIT: Also remembered I smash the standard LSD on my first outing to the pod when ZT.. still got home thou one wheel drive

My old black 3DR..............D938 PGT (first Cosworth I owned)
......Stage 1 tuned, I had that car for 4 or 5 years and did 49 K miles without it ever being off the road for more than 2 days of each year - and that was for servicing, usually by a then quite young Mr Shead.........then in later years it was serviced bt Paul Bailey - who bought the car off me when it had done 118 K miles

the saff may have to go though its too nice to use for my everyday commute to work, and tesco's etc. and i have too much money tied up in it.

Considering my S2 had knackered turbo oil seals and needed a head gasket, it was very reliable!
i was concerned about reliability in my S1 cos it had sat for a while when I bought it but was pressed into daily use and only thing tha went wrong was a collapsed wheel bearing

Care Free.......
RS 1600i (r.i.p) that i had years ago, blokey spent a small fortune on a new engine/box from interpro before decidin he wanted one of them DTM Calibra's that came out at the time. Dead reliable never let me down once in 4 years.. just a shame he spent even more money on P38 for the sills/floor/arches etc etc..

just finding my feet
the most reliable car ive EVER owned was a peice of shite blue escort cabrio,,, never checked the oil, never opened the bonnet for the first n6 months and the ONLY time it broke down was when i ran out of petrol ( petrol stations in central london are getting rare and i never have time when i see one) then one day the exhaust ripped off and then it done a gearbox ,,,, well i sold it before the problems started, done 35k miles though with out even checking the oil though
its for sale now if anyone is interested
my bmw was the most reliable car XRT-SI ever owned,,,,, so i bought it off him,,, since then ive done the water pump. thermostat, brake pads, 4 new fucking tyres and the rear arch has rust comming though, sunroof no longer works and needs all new bushes and the diff now whines and the bottom end it knocking,,,,,
so no car is EVER reliable,,,, but then alot of them problems they blame my driving style for due to me using all the rev gauge when driving to avoid premature wear to 1 to 3krpm when it reads up to 7krpm,,,,, why not use all of it before changing gears,,,,, just like using all the speedo when driving on motorways,,,,, if its not ment to be used then why whould they give them targets to aim for
