Default 2wd or 4x4 Cosorth Calipers???

I have been offered a set of front brake calipers for a cosworth. Only problem is the guys who is selling them doesn't know if they're for a 2wd or 4x4. I require a 4x4 set.
How can I tell??
All help apreciated.

just ask him to look inside the calipers and see how many round things there are pushing the brake pads, in simple terms

why did ford go from a 4 pot to a single pot?

surely a 4 pot caliper is better than a single pot?

I once heard that the original cossie four pot was a shit design, and the fluid would get too hot where it crosses the edge of the disc on the way to the outer two pots, causing boiling fluid in the crossover pipe (During hard use) and spongy pedal

Anyone else heard that or am i chatting shite?

Nope, it depends on the size of the pistons acting on the brake pad - 4x4 used larger pistons

Nope, it depends on the surface area of the pistons acting on the brake pad - 4x4 used larger pistons

For the life of me, I couldn't get the wording right on that this morning

Steve - no..... although many people believe that's the case (probably because 4 pots sounds better) ....

I thought it was because 4 pots would rip the front/centre diffs to shreds...

Or it was cheaper for some reason

so going on the principle of the bigger the piston the better, then surly the 2wd would be better, as for total suface of all 4 pistons its gonna be more than the 4wd is it not??

Why is it going to be greater, have you measured them? And it's pad area and clamping forces, and also disc size has a part to play.

IIRC

4x4 is 60mm (or 59.8mm)
