Default Sorry but i need to say this, what have we become??

according to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 60's,70's and early 80's probably shouldn't have survived, because our baby cots were covered with brightly coloured lead-based paint which was promptly chewed and licked.

we had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, or latches on doors or cabinets and it was fine to play with pans. when
we rode our bikes, we wore no helmets, just flip-flops and fluorescent 'spokey dokey's' on our wheels. as children,
we would ride in cars with no seat belts or airbags - riding in the passenger seat was a treat.

we drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle and it tasted the same. we ate chips, bread and butter pudding and drank fizzy juice with sugar in it, but we were never overweight because we were always outside playing. we shared one drink with four friends, from one bottle or can and no-one actually died from this.

we would spend hours building go-carts out of scraps and then went top speed down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into stinging nettles a few times,

we learned to solve the problem. we would leave home in the morning and could play all day, as long as we were back before it got dark. no one was able to reach us and no one minded.

we did not have play stations or x-boxes, no video games at all. No 99 channels on tv, no videotape movies, no surround sound, no mobile phones, no personal computers, no dvds, no internet chat rooms. we had friends - we went outside and found them.

we fell out of trees, got cut, and broke bones but there were no law suits.

we had full on fist fights but no prosecution followed from other parents.

we walked to friends' homes. we also, believe it or not, walked to school;

we didn't rely on mummy or daddy to drive us to school, which was just round the corner. the idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of they actually sided with the law. How i wish i could go back to then

I had a guy come into store the other day who was 83. He had an interesting attitude to life, he said reason people age and eventually die is because things change too much and you wouldn't want to live to see it all ruined. He was sayign how good things were back in teh day and how different they are now. He was basically saying times change too much and you wldn't wanna live for ever because what u loved as a child would be lost forever as times always change.

Was an interesting chat

Totally true, Remember when i fitted disc brakes to my bike and was telling some older man who i ride with about them and how i wouldn't be without them and he said 'I'm 65 years of age, And never had a disc brake in my life, How will you survive without them'. Got me thinking.

I remember when i was about 8 and me and a mate built a Go-kart from old wood, My dad gave us a hand. It had rope to use as steering. Some older kid who was probably only about 13 at the time took it off us. Now when your 8 a 13 year old is massive. But anyway we told my dad what happend and we went out on foot and found the lads with it. My dad slapped him across the ear and he carried are Go-Kart home. To me my dad was my hero back then. If there was ever any trouble my dad would make it better. Nobody could fight my dad or so i thought. Thinking about it now he was probably one of the weakest men in britian. But to me he was a hero. He used to meet me at school and walk me home. I know it sounds daft but when i came out of school and he was stood there waiting for me it made the day worth while. If there was ever a family argument. I'd run to my dad knowing nobody would be able to hurt me. ) Anyway i'll stop rambling on.
