Default What voltage should you have at an amal valve?

I'm trying to test my amal valve on my car and someone told me that it should click with the ignition on. I've tried with the ignition on unplugging it and plugging it back in but it doesn't I've checked the voltage going to it and with the ignition on (engine not running) it is 6 volts.

Is this correct?

If anyone either knows or can check theirs quickly I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

im not sure but i know that the valve opens and closes really quickly when it wants to bleed off boost....i dont think you would be able to measure a voltage....not sure though as i say

I thought there'd be a set voltage with the ignition on

I have no idea how an amal valve works

my amal valve never clicked with the ignition on but if you put a live and earth (safely) directly then it would click workrd spot on tho so never worried about it

I was just trying to test it to make sure. I've been getting boost spiking which I put down to the restrictor but I thought while I was at it I'd check it's working.

Were you putting 12v across it?

No idea what it'd drive like if it wasn't working

you should get battery voltage between the +ve wire at the valve and battery earth ,the valve is controlled by the ecu and the other wire is earth switched via the ecu and is pin 16 of the ecu

By battery voltage I guess you mean 12 volts. I checked that last night too and with the ignition on without the engine running I get 6 volts between the pins and 6 volts between the live pin and an earth.

by battery voltage i mena battery voltage .you will not get 12 volts at the +ve connection of the amul valve if the battery is flat and battery voltage is 9 volts u will get battery voltage at best ,so check the voltage of the battery if it is 12 u should get 12 at the valve if it is 12.4 u should get 12.4

You will ONLY get battery voltage at the amal valve when the engine is
running as it is feed from the fuel pump power relay.

Unlpug the valve before you do any checks.

When checking for battery voltage, use the multimeter black connection
to the car earth or negative NOT the second wire on the valve.
