Any legal bods on here? Getting harrased by a gym, advice?
To cut a long story short, used to be a member of a Gym, buy after loosing my job last year I didn't have the money to continue paying the membership. They then, despite me telling them my situation they still sent out a letter threatening to send the bailifs over to get £400. Thankfully my father bailed me out.
Now, just under a year later they are STILL sending me membership renewal letters, text messages & news letters. They are also sending my girlfriend about three or four texts a month.
I've sent them a letter saying I have no intention of re-joining because of my past service from them & my g/f certinately has no interest would they stop.
And they didn't. They sent me a letter saying they have appointed seven new managers, to which I sent another letter back thanking them for informing me, so hopefully now with seven managers between them they can stop sending me shit.
I also threatened to seek further action if they don't.
Well, this week my G/F has had two messages. So now I want to find out where to take this further.
Anything I can do?

I'm not ginger!!!! I'm blond!!! (although that would explain a few things!)
I took her there when we started going out and she filled out a day pass. But I'm pretty sure there was nothing on there about if you put your number on here we will send you txt messages to join up.
The messages just say join now! no sign up fee & first month free. Or variations of.
But surely if I've sent them a written letter asking them to stop sending things to both of us they HAVE to stop?

Under the Telecommunications (Data Protection and Privacy) Regulations 1999 ("the Regulations"), individual subscribers (consumers, sole traders, and (except in Scotland) partnerships) cannot be telephoned (live operator), for unsolicited direct marketing purposes, if they have previously notified the caller that such unsolicited calls should not be made on that line.
The Information Commissioner (IC) takes the view that SMS text messages should be regarded as telephone calls for the purposes of the Regulations.
so .. threaten them with court action or tell them you will settle with 5 free years membership
