Good day at Croft until...
After a top day at croft (i was on cumbria stand next to the rs 200) on the way back at about 4pm, driving down the A66 to get back on the M6, got to somewhere called Bowes and the S2 engine goes boom, smoke, oil and water everywhere, pieces of piston and metal all over the road....
i have some pics, i will try to workout how to put them up but it is not a pretty sight, my mechanic mate says there is a 2" round hole in the block, so it is rebuild time
i dont know if anyone on here went past, a few peeps did and gave us a beep, i was in a black turbo and there were two red ones with me, luckily my mates lass was in the rac, so we got on the phone, they tried to palm us off and send a patrol out asking questions like: was there a loss of power and what colour the smoke was
eventually after argueing with them they sent us out a truck after about 90 mins, so my baby got carried home and is now sat on my mums drive looking very sad
i have just seen a 1.8 zetec bottom end for sale on ebay, as my mate is a mechanic he is putting it back together for me but does anyone know what is involved in fitting these, i would be grateful for any help i really want it back!!
cheers guys
very p*****d off ste

yeah that was me mate, i thought something was going to be up when that happened!! i have a diaphram dump valve on it at the mo so it makes it run like shite, the rebuild is on the way now though, took the head off last night and luckily it hasnt damaged it at all, the bottom end has rather a large hole in it though...
i am thinking of going for a low comp bottom end and a high lift cam now, the zetec route seems a bit complicated
so when all the engine is out i am going to get it minted up under the bonnet with a bit of bling
i want it to run ok power but this time with reliability! the low comp bottom end seems like a good option, then it is going in for a couple of bits of paint (just being picky!) then a spax suspension kit, white escos alloys (i think!) and it should be how i want it, i am hoping to get rid in about 12 months and get myself a saff
i was so pleased with it sunday morning, then sunday night i just wanted to kick it!!! suppose its what you get for owning an rs (the mrs wasnt impressed at waiting around either!!)

This type of valve runs KE incredibly lean at cruise so if youd just done a lot of cruising at reasonable speed.......... boom

that must have been it then, bugger
when it is rebuilt there is a lovely bailey to go on, should that be better? hopefully it will run and tick over a lot nicer then, is that right?

right ok, ill make sure that i get one of those - the hole in my block is absolutely huge, i can get my hand in it!!!, when it is rebuilt and i have everything done that i want to do can i bring it to you to be set up and to make it run properly?
is that what you do? if so how much will it cost, i am only in lancaster so not too far for me!!

Eeeeek. Sounds nasty.
By the way, if you want to identify a Twin Piston Bailey Dump Valve, you can do so by looking in the end of it. The Twin Piston one will have a metal rod protruding from the piston, where the Single Piston one will not.
Who is rebuilding the engine for you?

Ste - sorry to hear it
I went past you when you were parked up, I was in a white Merc van towing my trailer with the rallycar on the back. Almost sure there was a trail of oil on the road leading to where you were stopped.
Seeing the trail of oil I knew it was a serious one and not just a water leak or something so I didn't stop sorry
Hope you manage to get it sorted - and Im sure someone can help tho'
