Yes sometimes but I do like tinkering with my Escort and when it pisses me off I can just leave it in the garage at home and forget it for a while and play with my other toys.

is harder than it looks.

every 1mph over 180 is even harder.

everyone thinks its as easy as turning up with a car running X amount of BHP and away you go.

For a high top speed to be hit and the car to stay reliable it takes alot of effort and testing

go for it BUD

you will be beter of with a bigger turbo tho
i can imagine it's pretty damned hard

i'm sticking with my turbo for a bit (just bought a house so funds will be too tight )

could i be the fastest T38 car?

Think Dave (MAD YUM) is still the fastest T38 car with 178, which i think will be a prity hard speed to beat

0-100 and 0-150 is where its at

would a 6 speed box (such as a T56) make that much of a difference in the top speed stakes? I.e have a nice T5 style 1-5th spacing and a long 6th rarther than dropping the final drive to 3.36 like Mike, which must kill the acceleration a bit ? or is it not worth the hassle?

Top speed runs don't do it for me, I only went to the Daddy Thrash as a last minute replacement because someone dropped out. This current engine has never been dyno'd and it wasn't set up for top speed, so getting 182.9mph on my second run was time to call it a day A good all round track car is all I am interested in.

I am in the process of downgrading at the moment, I'm taking off the GT35 and having a GT30 fitted in the next couple of weeks. Can't be doing with the lag on track.

Fair play to those who want to do top speed, especially Euan with a non-nitrous T4 and the silly amount of miles he did to get to Woodbridge

for me 2wd cosworths are about out and out straight line speed as they will never make great track cars(an escort being the track choice IMO).

thats why i have pushed my car for top speed.

As Andy says its each to their own.

Ill attend any top speed event that im invited to

Going to have a play on knockhill this year but dont expect to go very quickly at all

It sounds to me like we all need to get the cars out asap to set some times, let me know when your getting together and I'll be along.

euan you will be surprised at how much traction you can get in a 2wd with a decent diff and tyres, a 9"diff with the vc pumped up to around 550nm is superb

You may not like it & didnt succeed at it Kev, but Topspeed aint boring at the Speeds we now obtain & I agree its the ultimate test for an engine. Im putting a lot into my new engine/car for more attempts later this year to try & put the record out of reach of others. You decided to see how fast your car could go in 10secs or so , Im doing the same over a longer distance , there is no difference.
Rod
ps. I also think Cosworths are outdated piles of shite, but mine is quite quick & brings lots of publicity to MAD & thats all that matters to me now.

Euan - why would 4 wheel drive be so much better on track? An Escort Cosworth doesn't have any noticeable "strengths" over and above a Sierra Cossie apart from a bit of bodyshell strenghtening.

Considering trying to replicate Martin's car would also cost 100K+ at customer money, it's not a fair comparison.
