For me I was only 9 at the time, so I didn't really appreciate it then

I've got Spina bifida, so in my case I was born without my bottom 3 vertebai. This ment my nerve was unprotected and basically it could swing about. It got attatched to a bone at the bottom of my back. So as I grew, it stretched. Eventually I would of grown too tall and snapped, meaning paralysis.

A Doctor in Nottingham heard about my case, and had a new surgical technique to unteather the cord and release it. Time was tight as I was at my maximum hight almost. Within 6 months I was under his knife.

2 weeks in bed, not moving (no fun ), 2 drips of morphine, 1 of food. Eventually they let me move, then out of bed, then learnt how to walk again.

Total recovery and not had any problems since. Have total mobility of my legs and can lift fine etc...

Only thing its stopped me doing is taking football further. I play in net and can't risk a whack on what is still an unprotected nerve. Been asked by Semi-Pro teams, but its just a no. Istick to gay 5-a-side where I have an area to protect me

Odd thing is I never realy think how lucky I've been, I forget about it most of the time

I definately wouldnt say childbirth. It is the single most disgusting thing I have ever seen in my entire life and makes me look at oral sex a bit different these days!!

Best thing was watching Rolling Stones live in Twickenham last year!!

Worst thing was easily when a lorry crashed into the side of one of my old GTTs, and regaining conciousness to find my mate in a coma next to me with a cractured skull.
They turned his life support machine 24hrs later.

I dont know a best thing. ive lead an interesting life, thats for sure, but so shallow only car and fanny related stuff actually registers in my mind much.

Racing the 2 Diablos for 20-30 miles at totally insane speeds though the countryside in my old Cossie was something id never expect to happen again and was unbelivable, so maybe that.

A few different bird one that are as vivid as there were at the time, as it was off the charts, but you always sound like a showoff cunt talking about them, so fuck it, the Lambo one was the best.

I can't think of a single best thing. My 1st boys holiday to Ayia Napa was cool.

I can think of the worst though. Was in my mates bedroom and he passed out and I heard the 'death rattle' (but didn't know it at the time) and did fuck all about it, telling him to stop fucking about as he was dieing next to me. I noticed he started to throth at the mouth, then got his old man upstairs and had to watch him giving mouth to mouth whilst crying. I think if I was a bit sharper and acted quicker he'd still be alive.

one word - Concorde

Walking out on the back of the wing on the tarmac,

0-240mph in 20 seconds

Not being able to lean forwards to look out the window due to rate of climb and reheat thrust.

Mach 2 and a bit and feeling like you'r sat in an armchair at home

But THE most awesome thing - seeing the blackness of Space and curvature of the earth from 55000 feet

A truly fantastic day that I wont forget, especially as it's unlikely to be possible again in my lifetime

Driving past all the war cemetaries (sp) in Belgium and visiting the museum at Ypres was pretty breathtaking as already mentioned, cant imagine what it was like being made to do what they had to go through in the name of national service.

Greatest thing - Rallying an Escos at Oulton Park for my 21st. Amazing experience flying around the track, and then being taken for a lap or 2 by the instructor, and eff me, that's some memorable scary shit!

As strange as it may seem one of my best and most vivid memories of recent times was actually in London at the start of the Gumball (before the barriers-where the cars were fighting to get through the crowds in the road) I was on the start 'straight' and the atmosphere was amazing, everyone there to celebrate the cars and the lifestyle these people had, in the distance bouncing off the buildings on either side 'California Love' by Tupac, it was the Fuel Car owned by Richie Warren, the one where the boot raises up on hydraulics and as it approached it got louder and louder and louder - just made me smile so much and made the hair stand up on my neck - I have loved the song ever since

Snowboarding with 6 good mates, getting 1st tracks, early one winter morning 17KM of Off-piste untracked fresh powder on the Vallée Blanche Chamonix France.

Hi RichM and everybody, I agree it was the ultimate way to travel, I flew on it to NY and back about 15 years ago, I can still remember it perfectly.

mine was a charter trip, so plane was light, full of 8stone OAP's instead of 20stone businessmen and no luggage lol, and they weren't so bothered about how much fuel they were using oh.. and the runway was fairly short, so he had to go for it taking off and landing

I've been very lucky/unlucky in my life and had the opportunities to see some amazing things.Obviously my son being born and marrying my wife were amazing.

Leaving Croatia and entering Bosnia at 21 was pretty scary.

Doing my first ever 13 second qtr/mile.

Leaving the Army with Underworld "Born Slippy" on my radio.

Seeing The Killers perform "Mr Brightside"

Realising how lucky I am to work for Top Gear as a part time job.

Getting to the summit of Snowdon, easy enough I spose, but considering I'd also done Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike in the same 24 hours makes it a bit more harder!

Possibly the most emotional thing I'll remember more than anything was attending the Ufton Nervert Rail Disaster a couple of years ago, we were one of the first crews on scene and to be confronted with 6 de railed carriages, multiple fatalities and 150+ injured people was just so intense and took me a few weeks to get over,Although attending the memorial service was the hardest I've ever tried in my life not to break down and cry my eyes out. A friend of a young girl who died sung a beautifull song in the Cathederal and it was just so amazing how she did it without breaking down in tears. Deeply saddened me and made me realise how precious life is.RIP.

My Dad calls all this the "rich tapestry of life" which I find an interesting way of putting it. I love doing things and emotion, I'm a very emotional person, and I've also subjected myself to alot of things that some people would never see in there lives. I don't regret anything I've done, although yes, some of the things I've experienced I've wished they hadn't happened and wondered why God(if there is one) has let them happen

Oh, and the first time I did the Jump on the "Longcross stages" Rallying, those of you who've done it will know what I'm on about. Early on a Sunday morning, my wife navigating, in my freshly built Gp4 Mk2 Escort, totally airbourne in silence for a few seconds.

Does life get much better?
