Just don't leave the bowls down all day like some people do. It will lead to your dog being picky at times. If he doesn't eat, try it later on.

but they do alot of walking, running, jumping kind of muscle building.

I didn't think you were supposed to give dogs milk?

I feed my shit machine on Nutro choice Puppy, lamb and rice biscuits. It tastes rank to me (had to see what it was like one time ) but he obviously likes it.

We fed ours 4 times a day too, then at 6 months 3 x a day, then at 12 months twice a day and she is still fed twice a now day and she is nearly 4 yrs old.

Giving big meals to dogs can cause torsion [twisted gut] so it's advisable to feed little and often.

i feed ours 3 times a day,18week old huskies.they get dried nutro food and two tablespoons of wet meat, normally sensitive due to huskies having ibs.

as for chews i dont agree with the comment earlier, huskies are a big chewer.and we have loads of different stuff foer them to chew, one ,it keeps they off everything else and two it helps with the teething.

if you dont direct them to what they are allowed to chew then they will go for whatever they think is game.

you have a breed of dog that has been bred to use its mouth. ie retreiving, hunting etc they use their mouth to do the job.thats why they chew alot, its inbred.labradors, goldies, german shepards, huskies, malamute, akitas, springers and beagles and the terriers all have this as they were all used to help with gathering food one way or another

get denture ones, they clean the plaque off,and get plenty of different types of toys from rawhide bones to fluffy squeky things.but never leave them alone with fluffy or plastic squeaky things cos before you no it they will rip em apart and they can swallow the bits,i just leave the rawhide bones and hard rubber toys when we are out but i make sure they have a variety.

oh and swap them about so they dont get used to one type or they get bored.and always make them sit before giving them the toys or treats then they know you are pack leader.

ha i have plenty mate as im there at the mo.rule of thumb for me,i never let them on the seatee,if im on the floor with them then its their time.if im on the seatee they have to amuse themselves, and mine dont go upstairs either.one cos i dont want them around if me and the missus are feeling amourous and two cos i dont want them getting stressed when older and they cant get up the stairs.

never let your dog go out the door or lead you through anywhere first, you are walking him not the other way round.
not matter what they do never hit a dog,its not nessassary and espeacially on the nose as its like kicking you in the temple for them.
all training should be on a reward basis,if they do as asked then treat them with a bit of their food.a dog will respond better if there is something in it for him.

when you feed him pretend to eat his food before giving it to him as this is another pack leader thing.

im still thinking for you...........

if the pup has wee'd or crap somewhere it shouldnt and you didnt see it,let it slide as they dont associate the telling of with what they did earlier.and never rub a dogs nose in its wee as it will not respond to it as anything other than you being nasty.
alwaysd treat when its toileting in the correct place and this can go on regular up to a yaer but should still be done through out its life from time to time.
make sure you put the pup on its back at least once a day and stroke its chest, when they roll over and expose its belly its a submissive sign and is saying that you are in charge.

always be relaxed around a dog, they pick up stress even if you aint talking to it,and if they arent doing what you want and you get frustrated/streesed it will show as weakness to them,be calm clear and precise in your commands but being loud doesnt always work as it can sound stressed.

torion is caused by a dog havin somthing to eat then goin out to play, it can kill a dog within 2 hours. he had this happen to one of our great danes (unfortunatly he didnt pull though)

the best kind of food to feed your dog is dr johns silver or gold which is a higher protien.

oh and if he/she starts chewing things you dont want then get it lots of chewy toys to keep it occupied rope toys have been good for mine as they take ages to get thru em,if it does start to chew sumthing bad then take it off him/her say no then give it a toy they get it eventually (mine chewed the skirting board table and chair legs)

That FUCKING annoys me! I have friends who do that and fill the bowl randomly now and again. One has a fat cunt of a dalmation and no wonder if it eats whatever whenever!

Same here. Not necessarily always turkey one but JW anyway. Used Hills science plan first which is really good but expensive. I decided he'd get good food till at least one until he developed and had a nice coat. worth it imo!

110% the same about sofa and upstairs. NEVER let them or you're fucked and no going back. My dog wont even dream of going on seats, upstairs or in our family room as he's never been allowed.

IMO i think dogs know EXACTLY what they have done wrong. I know how my dog reacts and if he's fun ny with me when i come in its almost always that he's done something!!

ANd milk im sure isnt good for dogs. all advice is WATER only.

Kev
Other things from me.
Routine is vital as is consistency. Relax the rules once and you're fucked. You and mrs/kids/mates whatever must do same things.
DOnt let dog jump at people from NOW when they come into a room as you'll never break that habit. personal HATE of mine with other dogs.

Get a cage of you havent got one. VITAL imo!!! absolute must. Cant leave a pup alone in a room and trust it!

NEVER feed anything bar dog food 2/3 times a day and the odd treat. Dogs shouldnt get tit bits, food from your plate/table. I make my dog go to bed when we eat or food is around, cooking etc. now he doesnt need told he goes on own accord. Again imo nothing worse than a dog begging/pissing you off while eating!!

Do you know not to over excersise so not to ruin hips? i assume retriever is like our lab as sim ilar breed. ours was MAX 15mins 5 times per day for a "yr". i strtched it ever so slowly over the weeks.

btw my dog was 1 on sat

make sure it learns sit/down/stay etc quite early. they are very clever and with rewards will do it NP. I also raise my finger for sit and he'll do it without me actually sayin sit.

also while walking use the lead for the first good while to learn to "heel" or "here" or "come" etc. wee yank on lead and hold them in close. usually be consistent with side and way you walk. my dog is brilliant off the lead.

however, as is the same with the kids(!!!!), the dog is less obedient with the mrs so watch that she is the same as you. i RARELY use a lead and he stays with me. however the wife has a wee fight if theres another dog et

find out the amount of food the dog should have and split it up into 4 amounts per day for a puppy
then down to 3 meals a day then two
they should be fed little and often as there insides are only small and need to grow with them
our milk is not good for them either they are lactose intolerant
as an example my pup has 200g of dried food so two meals of 100g i do add some little extras to make it a bit more appetising for him
he is a blue staffie and 6 months old today weighs 17.5kg
