Insurance payouts?

Usually all depends on the insurance company you are with as some can take forever and other will pay out within a week or two.
Took me a around 3 months to get paid out for my last bike after they offered me a stupidly low figure for it ( this was 2 years ago and bike was a 2001 Honda Fireblade with FDSH and in mint condition with only 4k miles on it ) which was way less than what it was worth.
First offer they gave me was for £4000 and at that time the bike was booking over £5500 for one in good condition, mine was in mint condition with way below average miles.
Took a while but eventually got paid out the £5500 i was wanting

what about an excess from an accident that was my fault accident was in 2000, didn't make a claim as there was no damage to this landrover i had a bump with on roundabout. 2001 get a letter saying hes claiming for compensation loss of earnings but no damage to car had already fitted a new door to my car by then. Said it was 50/50 and was willing to go to court. Got a letter late 2001 saying was my fault and they would not defend it in court and that i had an excess of £500. No more letters to date, so far not paid a penny but did loose 2 years NCB. Is there a time limit for me to pay this? or am i a lucky bastard. Maby the bloke died before they agreed a claim with him
