You're mates prob talking shit to try and look clever. Dubsport, Euro-Whatsits and MJS have all done twin engined cars and I'm sure all are road legal

I've read but can't find a link, (still looking) that there is no problem with the second engine being fitted but it has to be disabled on the road and for MOT.
Emissions wouldn't be a prblem if the exhausts combined at some point.

If two engines was illegal, you could argue that all the Honda IMA, Toyota Prius and Lexus hybrids are illegal too as technicaly they are twin engined.

Personally i think its a case of bar room bullshit.

Twin engines done by a major manufacturer will have type approval and will be legal to use.

Guy at home sticking 2 mini engines in one body is a completely different thing.

If they both drive through different drivetrains and one engine stalls, you could effectively have one axle locked up and still attempt to drive the other, causing possible handling problems.
If they both drive through the same drivetain it should be O.K and legal.

interesting one this ....

i am sure there is a kit car maker that have a twin bike engined car ????

as long as it is structurally safe and strong i cant see why not ?????

as for the Axel locking on a non running engine, i don't think that would happen as most cars have fuel cut off on over run and they don't lock !!!!

as for emission's on the MOT, if the two exhaust systems are joined at some point it would be just taken from that. But if the systems are totally separate they would have to take the readings from both and multiply them together...

you would also have to completely seal the rear engine from the passenger compartment for safety ( think V6 Clio !! )

would like to see more twin engined cars !!!!

Can't be illegal or they wouldn't be producing these for example.

What's the difference between having 8 clyinders or 2 lots of 4 (that's a rhetorical (sp?) question btw)

Both engines drive into a common transfer box driving only 1 axle.
