a lot of old pf names on the mlr nowadays
after getting the evo 6,i have spent a bit more time now on the mlr and there are a lot of converts over there nowadays.
i must admitt i cant see me ever buying another cossie for myself after owning the evo-although i still love the rs marque/scene,and will still be around it for years to come.
i like using the cars i own so could never justify putting a mint 3 door away under a cover or something like that-but using it would affect its value.and would to be honest sooner have an evo than an escos.
its not as friendly over there though as it is on here.
how the fuck am i going to get my evo onto the stands at the rs shows????
my evo
but the cars in my garage are still ford(mainly)

my rs500 was blisteringly quick in a straight line, but it was always a lottery wether it would stay together!the evo is more fun in an all round package type way.nowhere near as quick as the rs500 but a lot of fun in the bends.

but do you get the urge to tinker with an Evo like you do with a Cossie? or do you just put it away til you drive it next?
agreed the Evo's are great in the bends, but it's all to easy....i like a fight when i'm driving

there isnt much tinkering to do on the evo compared to the amount of time i spent"tinkering"under the bonnet of cossies-maybe its just a pleasant change for me at the mo.

I'm not defending Cossie's either before anyone jumps on the bandwagon, I like some Evo's to!
Yours looks nice Jay!

my Evo5 made 365bhp/345lbft at 19.5psi
and from what ive read on the MLR you should be making 340bhp at the bottom end of the figures, more likely to be 350-370 bhp with around 320-350lbft not bad for a 5psi boost rise

i would say theres no need for a boost controller unless youre planing on constantly changing the boost setting low-high etc... but im open to persuasion if anyone knows better

I presume the car uses the standard boost solenoid then? You can get a better boost solenoid from the states for about Ł20. It'd need remapping though as it's a 3 port style and the duty cycles would be different.
If it holds it's target boost well though you may well be wasting money buying an aftermarket controller.

A mate's got the ECUTEK - taking his '260' up to 322 and a nice increase in torque (can't remember the figure). Personally, I think I'd go the Autronic route like Lynne, but obviously it's a bit more expensive and depends what you want from the car. His is fine without a boost controller at that level of tune.
If you can find somewhere safe to play with the EVO and get used to it's AYC, they're absolutely amazing in what they can do - a lot of my mate's long term EVO owning friends were truly gobsmacked at what they can do after seeing him drive his - they obviously hadn't explored the full scope of what they can do (but thought they had!). He bought his after being taken out for a demo with the dealer (who's a rally driver), who really took the term 'demo drive' to a whole new level.
Norfolk Group are usually happy to have an Evo or non-ford on their stands if you ask Mike nicely

Doh, didn't notice that
LOL @ Euan, I'll be sticking with my EsCos for a good while. As much as the EVO is a superb performance car, I wouldn't sell my EsCos to get one. But then I refuse to test drive one, just in case....

i had a 510 bhp rs500 last year which was great fun as im sure you know.but they are now old cars which cannot realistically be used every day like the evo.its common knowledge you half expect something to break every time you go out in a cossie-be it a small electrical gremlin or an engine letting go.or there is the paranoia of crashing it!
im not slating cossies-i deal in them ffs,and have had more of them than most.but as a good reliable useable package-the evo is a great car.would i sooner have an Ł12k escos or a Ł12k evo-evo evry time im afraid.
the rs cars are great and the ford scene is excellent, and its something ill be a part of for many years to come.but the fact is the evo is an excellent car.

i never thought i would end up in an evo after having the rs500,but here i am.i took my mate out in my 500 before i sold it and he returned the favour in his evo 6 makinnen.same route.
cossie was much quicker, but when it came to keeping the speed up in the bends-the evo was unbelievable.
i was planning on building a 400 bhp 2wd sapph, but cant see it happening now as the evo is so much fun in virtually out of the box spec

i love evos and would have one in a flash but all my cash has been sunk into my cossie and i am very happy with it.
cant really compare a cossie and a Evo tho , can you?
one is ten years newer.
would never swap an escort for any evo.

I whould get an evo, probley a fq 340 but i whouldnt sell my escort to get it, might sell the focus for it but i dont like the way the evo`s lose money and that they bring a new model out every 6 months, as i dont get alot of time to drive a car allways in the van i dont want a car that is costing loads to sit on the drive, but can still put a smile on your face when you drive it
