If so i need a bit of a hand.
Im applying and wanted to know what kind of things go down well on the application/CV obviously not lying about anything but may pay off to talk about relevancies.
Any help appreciated
Pete

I am a driver (well, thats I like to think they pay me for at the end of the day
) of some description for one of the biggest TOC's in the country.
Steve (Cossie 4i) is a driver instructor for a different TOC
and there is a train fitter on here too, I think its Fil
Just don't lie in your CV - anything is relevent![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)
To be brutally honest, going in as a conductor is the best bet at first - work your way up the system as you gain a good grounding on the railway then.
Also, you have to pass a psycometric test which is a test to see if you are going to be trainable to take in the information, concentrate enough and have the aptitude to do the job - its a bit of a fucker, fail this badby twice in your lifetime and you cannot re-take it ever

Ive passed all the interviews and tests too.
Was for the now dead Wessex Trains.
3 days of tests and shit, i nailed em, which was nice.
Didnt tell them anything massivly relevent, just was honest and made sure they knew i was intelligent, learn quick, and already have a good knowlege of the UK rail system, which is always gonna be handy.
IIRC the job had over 900 applicants, so if you got a similar amount to be up against, make sure you do a good job on it!

Just done it and starting soon - Assuming my Drug test results come back ok - which they should ' cos i don't do that stuff !!
Rules and procedures are the main thing - if you've worked to any ESPECIALLY Health and safety. They want to know that you can be trained to their rules and procedures. If your not into mechanical things then digging out an old physics book would be invaluable.
THe group Bourdon test is a nice little test - google it - there is a bloke who has a website with a copy of that test which you can download - if you can't find it let me know and i'll e-mailo the files to you. You can't really train for it - but uf you know how to do it before the day you have half the battle won !!
Could probably dig out more info if you require - might take a few days - let me know if you would like me to.
Good Luck.
Nick

Lucid - I'd be tempted to log onto the first scotrail webby and see what other information they have about the vacancy
www.firstgroup.co.uk then goto the scotrail section

I work for 1st Scotrail, you will be on a 6 month course, you will also be monitered for a year after you finish your training. After that you should go on full wages, you will be on trainee rate up to that date. Normally any jobs that do come up, they prefer to get someone with some railway experience. You have to be very careful once you pass out as all eyes are on you, remember 3 spads (signals passed at danger) and your out

Never heard such a stupid statement before - you can have 3 infastructure spads that are not your fault - a faulty signalling system for example where the signal is put back on you - not your fault at all, and you certainly would not be "out" as you put it.
Also all spads are broken down into different catagories depending on the severity of them and the location and type of signal passed - the higher the risk signal, the greater the severity. For example, ALL spads that occur with position light signals are catagory one spads. Whereas passing a fully automatic signal at danger without authority may be classed as a catagory 3 or 4.
These days it is all about route-cause analysis - getting to the bottom of the problem instead of the old blame culture from days of past.
PS - your signature is too big also - please reduce it to below 25kb filesize
