Default HELP! Think Ive fooked my Hard Disk... *UPDATE!*

As above my external hard disk doesnt seem to be powering up at all :S. I've tried plugging the HDD straight into a normal PC (usually the disk sits in an external caddy) and still nothing .

I've taken the lid of the disk and noticed that the disks (2 of them on top of each other) seem to be fine and do turn when i carefully turn them manually. I also tried powering it up with the lid off and nothing happens at all, it doesnt even attempt to try and spin. Does this mean that the circuit board on the HDD is fooked and the data could still be salvageable from the disks themselves? (All of my accounts, signwriting stuff and MP3's, car pics etc are on there!). The disk in question is a Maxtor 120Gb.

HEEELLLLLLPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!

yes salvageable, and any reputable data recovery place could do it quite cheaply i'd assume.

as for DIY? sorry i don't know how

Taking the lid off is a very bad idea, the slightest bit of dust will fuck it bigtime!
As above, most of the data will be recoverable but leave the lid on whatever you do

I know, but for two seperate drives in two seperate locations to fail at the same time is pretty unlikely so if the internal drive fails, you have a backup on an external drive. Or if the external drive fails, you still have the originals in the internal drive... Or like me, you have the original internal drive, then an external back up drive, then another external backup of the back up drive

Well good news! The hard disk arrived today (identical to my one). Swapped the boards over and hey presto! It read the disk and all the data was transferable!!!!!! Phew!!! Defo gonna be writing them all to dvds to store now!!!!
