Default quick ford 4 wheel drive system

sorry kinda new to fords

but why have ford stopped doing 4 wheel drive cars? and even rear wheel drive......

the ford rs sts fiesta st's

ford used to do rwd sierras.....4 wheel drive cossies

now all seem fwd

is the 4 wheel drive system ford used owned by cosworth??

seems strange with RS's being derived from the rally cars that are 4 wheel drive.

Cost and safety most likely. For the average driver FWD is the safest as its predictable

The 4x4 system used on the cossies was a Ferguson research design wasn't it?

its soooooo much cheaper to package a fwd car,and its a LOT cheaper to put in a nifty diff than re engineer a car so its rwd or 4wd!Ford is fucked financially at the mo so isnt gonna start spending loads!

Well forget about me...

Safety wise would you rather have you girlfriend/wife/mum/kids driving about in a 220bhp RWD or FWD car?

At the end of the day FWD is safer for "normal" drivers...

they'd dvelop the MTX 4x4 more like the transverse system like in an evo,

make it much stronger - the new focus is based on the volvo floorplan and that does have a 4x4 derivative in th pipeline....

Any 4x4 system from now on will be the Volvo setup, lots of modern Volvos are 4wd.

Works well enough, but as per the old Cossie system, only handles about 400bhp before shit starts falling to pieces at alarming regularity.

Actually, maybe things are a bit stronger than the old setup then.
