Don't do it.. sport is a non turbo'd Impreza. I'd of thought a genuine 82k mile rst would fetch a reasonable amount?

Off the top of my head I'd say a 93 sport impreza is worth circa £1000

eh?

Sure it said sport in ya original post? I see you've edited it

If it's a WRX then I'd say it's worth £3K max for a 93 (if it's nice) They seem to be from £2k->+

Check rocker cover gaskets for leaks, power steering reservoir for leaks, listen for tapping on cold start.

If it's of reasonable mileage and you get it then a 95> WRX ecu is a nice mod. The 95> is 260bhp as opposed to the earlier ones which are 240bhp

They will be ok around 280bhp - 300bhp, you'd get to circa 280bhp with 95> ecu or scoobyecu module, de-cat downpipe, exhaust system and filter. They respond really well to a de-cat dp and system.

Limiting factor is the tiny top mount, but as long as you don't thrash it after it's been standing in traffic etc then it'll be ok at that power.

They are good fun, I'd consider having a drive of it, nice and chuckable. A couple of cheap mods courtesey of scoobynet parts for sale and it'll go pretty well too.

check for the coil packs as there coil on plug and do dry out and crack letting in moisture causing misses.

If the Impreza is in good nick I'd consider it.
As a direct comparison the Impreza is twice the car the bean tin is.

Be aware that running & repair costs can be alot higher though!

I personally like the earlier engines, 95, 96 being my favourite. The earlier ones sometimes suffer from noisey tappetts on cold start (like I said earlier) A lot of the engines around 97 seem a bit less well built if you see what I mean (piston slap etc)

They are pretty good engines, just need to make sure they are running ok, have a look on ebay there's plenty of UK cars with over 100k miles on them... reason I say look at uk ones for reliability/mileage is a lot of the imports have been clocked and it's not a fair representation of their longevity IMO

It may be worth asking if the guy has checked for knock or has a knocklink fitted. From experience though as long as everything is ok the car would fuel ok on 99 ron or v-power.

Only other thing I can think is to drive it from cold, if it missfires then it may need new coil packs (may need only 1, may need more) for some reason when the car is warm in their early stages of dying they seem to work ok.

From the pics it does look in very good nick but that doesnt mean it will be in that condition, i have to see it in the flesh first. Still dont know what to do, the reason i dont know what to do with my RS is that its parked in the street with school kids running up and down, and i dont live in the best area. I didnt think id be like this with the RS, im at the window if anyone goes within 3ft of it !!!! I know that if i had a scooby i wouldnt be that bothered about leaving it in the street, as i feel they dont carry that same "special tag" as theres that many scoobys on the road compared to the RS.

Tend to agree with what James is saying here.

Why does he want to swop?

I'm not a great fan of Scoobies, and some early impezas are starting to look really tatty.

If something looks too good to be true - it probably is!

When i looked into getting my S2 i thought it would be to good to be true from the pics and description the previous owner gave me, but when i saw it in the flesh it was just as good if not better than the pics and description.

one small thing,do you do your own maintenance?or pay people to do it for you?if its the former, ask him if you can practice changing the plugs,if the latter ask for a quote from a garage to do this! either one should put you off! the former will have grazed knuckles and every swearword in the dictionary uttered from your mouth, the latter will reduce your bank account ridiculously for such a small undertaking! it really is a pain in the neck and after doing it for a mate once i vowed to NEVER do it again!

Too true. There's a reason that this guys wants to get rid of his wrx and that is because they aren't worth much now because the market is flooded with imports The Impreza market is very slow because of this.

Guys trust me Mattys rs turbo is one of the best ones ive seen in a long time. Its always clean and the body is solid. I live 50 yards from him and share his concern with security as my company car lives outside my house and hes true its not the best area with the school kids of the 21st century!

I hope he sees sense though!
